JKM exclusive grooved brake discs (for vRS)

Featured Replies

Just seen on JKM's website their new range of 'exclusive' grooved Brake Discs. Specification and price looks good.

Top marks, particularly as they do a set for the Octy II vRS, which no-one else seems to (yet).

One snag though; I can't seem to find anyone who does uprated pads for the Mk II vRS to go with them, or even as an initial step to better braking.

EBC redstuff Ceramic V3 and EBC Yellow Stuff are available for the VRS.

(The reds are part number DP31517C and listed as golf MK V GTI)

I have a set in my hands right now :)

Steve also found some on ebay but the reds have better friction figures from cold so I went with them.

Mintex did the extremes if you can get hold of some too.

I personally went for OEM discs on the premise that when grooved the disc is a less effective heatsink than when solid. That combined with the fact that for fast road, inc autobahn speeds, grooves do very little apart from increasing pad wear by skimming the surface meant I decided to save the cash. (Was talking to an atom driver who races a few other cars and he actually said grooves reduced the braking force marginally but then they maintain it if the pads get too hot and start to glaze which will usually only happen on track)

When you look at the Focus RS, Golf GTI, Audi RS series, none of these have grooved discs and at the same time have impressive stopping power.

I was unconvinced by the above mentioned discs purely on the premise that JKM seem to have little data from testing available as to what improvement if any these provide over standard pads. On that note I decided to save the money.

If I remember correctly EBC also do discs for these but I can't comment on them other than they exist.

FWIW I believe that the MK I and MK II may well use the same pads put need to see a picture of MK I Octy Pads to confirm.

They are for ATE callipers and look similar from the pictures I've seen.

Will try post a picture of the MK II Items up here if anyone want to do the same with the MK I's
