Fabia PD130 Oil Change

Featured Replies

Hi there.

Contemplating getting an oil change done at national tyres (was going to do it myself but it works out at £32... cheaper than I can get the oil filter and bits for).

Just wondering if its worth it?

I had my last oil change done at the service last August, and another isnt due until the same month this year. I've done 7k since the last change and will probably do the same again before August.

Worth getting one done or not?

Hi

6 monthy interval is good just make sure they use the correct grade of oil

Are you sure theyll use the right oil at that price? if not itll do a lot more harm than good

They won't even know what the right oil is. Even if they "say" they do, what guarantee have you that they have actually used the right oil? The right oil costs about 45 to 50 quid on its own. Avoid, IMO.

Id agree, frankly if your worried about cost buy the proper bits and DIY. if its cheaper than you can do it its for a reason

millers xfe-pd 5 litres £30

oil filter for PD engine £5

bit of cash thrust in mates direction C £15

Total bill for oil change - around £50

Saving over dealer servicing - priceless!

Is that Millers a 507.0 or 506.01? Millers is good stuff. That price is about £15 less than I last paid for 4 Litres of Castrol 506.01 a few weeks ago. Problem is, finding the stuff. The local Millers stockist was where I bought the Castrol from. They don't stock the Millers pd oil.

xfe-pd is to 505.01 spec. :)

You should be able to order it in from your local millers place. My local one usually has it on the shelves so I don't bother.

I just checked this out, on Milers website their XF LONG LIFE 0w30 is 506.01 spec. It costs £49.99 plus £8.95 P&P. Hmmmm. The XF LONG LIFE 5w30 is 507.0 and costs the same.

To put it in both my Fabia VRs and my Superb TDi V6 I believe I need 506.01 or 507.0 Thanks.

The superb won't need the PD spec oil as it's not a PD engine. :) I would probably say that each car would want it's own oil bought for it rather than buying the same oil for both. :)

Now I can understand- XFE-PD 5w40 is semi synth to 505.01 and is thus cheaper @ £32.99.

Thanks, I need to check. I'm sure the manual says 506.01 for non PF vehgicles and 507.0 for PF vehicles. Mine is 55 plate non PF.

If it were me I would take it to Skoda to get the oil change

£32 seems a bit cheap. I'd be wary of them doing the service to spec at that price. Do you still have a warranty? If you do then it might be better seeking a specialist or dealer. I always used to change the oil in between services. If I did a track day it always got changed after. Clean oil is the key to the longevity of your engine especially if your hard on it.

Cost me £29 for all the bits. I bought some AC Delco (Which I though was GM...) branded oil specced at 505.01 for £22, the filter was £4.98 and the plug (Yes you should replace the sump plug if your taking it out) was about £2. I have trade accounts at several local Motor factors so I know I get the parts at a competative price.

Doing it yourself is simple, can be messy if your inexperianced but how else do you get the experiance?

National Tyres - Oil and Filter selector

thats the offer

castrol edge 5w40

It's £33.30 for 505.01

That's still a mighty good deal! Wonder if they reset the service light?

They are on dodgy ground if they do as they aren't actually carrying out a service, just an oil and filter change.
