Do you MOD for looks or performance, or even both?

Featured Replies

A simple-ish question as to why you mod you cars. is it for performance, appearance or a bit of both.

I modded cars when I was younger for performance only as I liked the ‘Q’ car factor. But now that I am older I found myself putting slightly different wheels on my car when I ordered it, purely for cosmetic reasons. Not sure why, but I guess I just want to be a little different from the herd

Perhaps I am a little vain in my old age?

Oh it's a multiple choice poll too.

You can do both. I like performance parts that look good.

Big *** brakes, stop the cr well and look great behind some slick rims for example.

Bit of a toss up between physically inadequate and I just can't help my self.

I used to mod my old fiats because as the cars were cheap I had a little left over to make them quicker. Nowadays I think my priorities have changed a little and I look at M-technic cars and think I wish mine looked more like that. More ‘GO’ is always better though:D

well I started on the looks of the vRS now I've managed to secure a pd160 and a green cotton filter, to help with the 152bhp it's got already.

I mod because I enjoy it and the gains at the end. It always helps if a performance mod looks nice though. I'm a sucker for shiny wheels, hence the ones on my old golf.

When I bought the vRS I was not going to touch it beacuse it was cracking when I bought the car, but now reading through the forum I have so many ideas to do to it and it's actually hard to beleive but the car is nearly complete with only three parts to buy for it now which are pd160, green cotten air filter, and black wheels, I also have to get the strut brace and arb but thats it, nor more spending after that, apart from on my wedding.

I mod because I like to spend all my money then sell my modded cars on

You can never have enough power  (Well that's if you have a big wallet)

I used to mod for looks , because I was (and still am) a posing b*****d! Unfortunately I feel like I'm getting too old to bother doing anything to cars now , for example Ive had my Furby Comfort for over 2 1/2 years and it's still got wheeltrims and a Rdio/Cassette , a situation I would not have tolerated had I still been 28 years old instead of 38! lol!

As for performance I tend to think I'd just buy a car I thought was fast enough as standard , rather than modding a slower one up to the same performance , again , not something I'd have admitted as a 20 - something!

Anyway , I have an MPi , not a vRS so that old expression applies " You can't polish a turd!". :)

Happy Easter!

I am definitely a tinkerer.

I am coming round to thinking that Modding is a human condition. If you could buy your own car again, but it had every Mod you have now plus every Mod you have in the pipe line already on it (Afterburners withstanding) and it cost the same as you originally paid, do you think you would still want to Mod it further? I’m guessing most people would still find something to tweak.

Mis quote engine again ......now we know where the pikey mods came from

I like the wolf in sheeps clothing idea .......but maybe some decent wheels as well

I mod because I can't bear the thought that it *could* be better if only I added or changed X...

It's the same impulse which makes me update computer BIOS's compulsively.

I haven't modded anything, but if I could bring myself to part with my money instead of being a meiser and counting it and stashing it in my ISA I would put white super t's on for aesthetics and when it's out of warranty maybe get a map for a bit more power :)

I mod because I like the wolf in sheeps clothing situation. (the "but it's only a Skoda" still makes me laugh:D:D)

But the odd tasteful & discrete mod for looks is not unheard of on my cars..

I agree! I think, especially in a Skoda, people dont think that for one minute they are going to be left standing at the traffic lights! Definately the wolf in sheeps clothing type mods for me. I like to keep it all under the bonnet!

I started to tweak it coz I could :P - most of it is purely functional ;)

I mod because i am :D

I have lost a small fortune on my car, spending money unwisely on modifications, and I will NOT be modifying the SE, at all, ever, maybe, just a little, well I have bought an air intake, and a splitter, and have been pricing up an exhaust.......

Bugger.!
