URGENT help needed!

Featured Replies

I've taken both my rear brakes apart to change the discs and pads, but the pistons wont go back in to make room for the new pads.

I'm screwing both the pistons clockwise but they don't seem to have moved in atall. HELP!

I have released the handbrake cable from the callipers. Im going mad here.

I've made a piston wind back tool, which is just a bit of steel tube with two tangs filed in the end. It works, in that it turns the pistons, but they just arnt going in.

Please someone help I need to car back on the road by the end of today!!

Are my rear callipers nakkered?? Am i missing something?? Is clockwise the right way to screw them in??

'02 vRS by the way.

Thanks, Andy.

Have you removed the brake fluid cap?

I think you need a special tool to wind the pistons back in

I've tried it with the cap off, and now ive opened the bleed nipple on the calliper to drain the fluid, but nothing is coming out atall!

The tool ive made does exactly what the proper one does, it just turns the piston, dont see what else it could do?

Looks like im gonna have to put it all back together with the old discs and nakkered pads now. treat.

i recon both my rear callipers are shot. nearside pad had half the material missing and the paint on the calliper had blisterd due to heat. something is very wrong with my rear callipers me thinks....

nothing is ever simple. today i hate working on my car.

hi

are you pushing as well as turning you need to apply some pressure whilst turning

where the pads really low?

HI, if it's like the one I had on my Alfa, you need to push the piston as well as turning it to get it to go back in.

Beaten to it by VtinyRmikeS drat drat & triple drat.

Just been doing mine. Long story but got the wrong tool, so had to adapt it a bit. Found that you need to push in quite hard and then turn. Once it starts to go in it was easy - just needed to turn it - but used a sawn off g clamp to start with. Thats when you find out they've sent you the wrong discs! So cars been on axle stands since last week due to Easter and no deliveries.

use search feature and look up .......tips on relacing rear pads

thanks everyone! you were indeed right about having to push real hard as you screw. bit the bullet and bought the tool from halfords in the end. worked!

phew! just reassembling now, in semi darkness!

pads wernt that low, but the discs were heavily grooved and very rusty. also one of the pads surfaces had half fallen off. glad ive changed it all....

cheers for the advice guys.
