Air-recycle light always on!

Featured Replies

Air-recycle on my fabia has been a pain in the rear for some time. There's a fault somewhere with it. It may be a loose wire somewhere but, it's a question of how difficult is this going to be to diagnose without taking it to a dealer for a fix.

The light is 99% of time on when it shouldn't be. If you go up and down the hills in the country lanes of northumberland, you'll see it flickering on and off probably (well it did this when I took it there and does similar in other up-and-down hilly areas across the country).

You can press the button to try and switch it off, and it won't do anything. There have been other times, when the light is not on to start with and you hit the button and it can come on, and then you hit the button it will go off (as normal). When the problem first started, it would come on of its own accord, I would turn it off, it would turn itself back on, I would turn it off, it would turn itself back on - this would go on for about 10-15 minutes and then it would stop.

With the fans on and then you stick the car into reverse, it seems like it doesn't catch the air-recyc, as I get the smell of exhaust gasses coming into the car. You normally can hear the change when it activates and quite frankly I don't seem to hear that anymore.

The last time I asked a dealer, they said the computer showed a "short-to-ground". Then they said £350 for a new one.. I said yeah right, on yer bike. That's serious money I ain't handing over to anyone, especially if its a simple fault.

I don't have a VAGCOM - if anyone in the Wigan area has one then I'd like to see if it's really something or nothing, if they woudn't mind hooking my car up to a computer for a short while.

Alternatively, can anyone advise what is the best thing to look for? Can the controls behind the button be easily accessed? Could I easily determine if it was a loose wire somewhere?

It's been annoying me for far too long and want to get it sorted finally.. any help as always is greatly appreciated.
