National Tyres Oil Change

Featured Replies

Hi

Wondering if any one has tried the National Tyres oil change sevice? I was just on their website and they will do an oil change with Castrol Magnatec 5W-40 or 10W-40 for £24.30, Castol Edge 5W-30 for £28.80.

I cant seem to buy the oil for that price.

Does anyone recommend this service and if so which oil should i have for a 2002 Octavia vRS?

Andy.

Yes i would recommend them, its damn cheap as you say and is not worth getting mucky to do it yourself.

I use the fully synth castrol Edge.

Buy your own genuine oil filter and how can you go wrong? Go for edge 5W-30. I have just paid £42.0 for the oil alone!!

I have got the car booked in for an Edge Service, i have got a Genuine Filter already so all good.

What a bargain:)

Have they started doing this - last time I asked no one knew when it was to start .

Keep an eye on how they drain the old oil.... it is not unknown for this sort of operation to feed a scavenge pipe down the dip stick tube and evacuate the oil by pumping it out, (hardly ideal) - especially likely if it becomes necessary to remove an undertray to gain access to the drain plug.

Also, make sure they fit a new copper seal ring to the drain plug if the do remove it, and also make sure they do not overfill the sump as they may not measure the amount of oil they put in.

Sorry to sound less than enthusiastic, but I have seen rather too much of the 'fast fit' style of working just lately.

They state on the website that they will charge an extra tenner if they have to remove panels to get to the drain plug.

 Yes, just had my Octy 1.9tdi done. I'm very pleased with the price. Had the Fully Syth 5W30 Castrol Edge (VW507 spec). It was properly drained from underneath, no extra charges for tray/cover removals. The filter fitted was a GFE417 (a Unpart PN I believe).

They don't change the sump plug/washer tho', so might be a good idea to buy one for piece of mind.

Only worrying aspect of it is that at no point did I see where they got the oil from, it appeared in a large plastic jug from a back room. Also, as someone else mentioned, they overfilled it by about a 1.5 cm. I'm in the process of drawing the excess out with a large syringe.:D

Chris

they probaly get the oil in huge stock, there for are able to offer it so cheap, yet there still making a nice profit i suspect, and yes be carfull with the amount the put in as quick fit mechanics are generally monkeys sorry to say.

I saw the big castrol drums when i went last time. Im gonna make sure they dont over fill next time.
