Vegetable oil and rising Diesel costs

Featured Replies

Vege oil instead of diesel any thoughts about this, Is anyone running thier vRS machines (or other types) on veg oil.

Will the PD engines like this?

Was contemplating this type fuel as alternitive with impending fuel actions etc

The most common form is Biodiesel and according to here says that all VW cars can run on it......

Sure I read somewhere it was about 26p/litre at the moment (if you make it yourself), which is surprise, surprise, all tax for the government ;)

found this info.....

The price of Biodiesel (5% blend) from a typical outlet is around 79.9p/litre at present (March 2004)

Cos we live in the UK, it's unlikely at this stage that you can obtain biofuel easily anyway (there are a limited number of industrial suppliers), Tescos seem to be the at the forefront

it would make sense for us to follow the French in supplementing normal diesel fuel with up to two per cent biodiesel. Not only would this reduce our dependence on crude oil, but the improved lubrication qualities of biodiesel would eliminate the need for the exotic additives currently used in diesel

Oh wow , a whole 2p a litre cheaper. For the sake of a quid I think I'll carry on using the normal stuff especially as my nearest supplier seems to be 45 minutes away.

I'd possibly use it as a last resort thing , but the prospect of not being able to go to work doesn't worry me all that much :)

So are there are performance degredations issues with using bio diesel ?

Think not, see above post it is claimed... improved lubrication qualities

I do think that biodiesel will drop in price soon. The comments I have seen made make me think this.

Of course I may be wrong (as per usual) but..

I've had car in my work shop that have run on veg oil, All I can say is if you want to break down alot and cain your engine run on it!

I've also seen HGV's run on it and they had to remove the head and decoke it every few thousand mile,

Most TDi's do around 50 MPG and most people don't do huge miles. just think about Truck owners doing 6-8 MPG and around 100,000 miles a year! that why we Chip trucks as they can save about
