Pollen Filter, condensation problems etc...

Featured Replies

Really ****ed off with the constant condensation problems in my 2001 4X4. Everything is dry inside, carpets, boot, the lot. Car just instantly mists up when the air con is off. So I have to drive with the air con all the time.... fuel economy is bad enough!!! It's a bloody nightmare when you are driving along and hit a cold patch of air (below 3 degrees the aircon switches off) and the cabin instantly mists up.

I cleared a blocked drain (RHS above the engine bay, below the windscreen, one of the two main drains from the windscreen that drains into the wheel arch). Still no difference. Coolant level hasn't dropped a mm in over four months (so it's not the heater matrix).

Where is the pollen filter located so I can check if it's damp/blocked?

Car is due a service in a couple months, can I ask the mechanics (using a local garage rather than main dealer as the mechanic is an ace and is thorough) to look for anything specific?

Cheers.

pollen filter is located underneath offside scuttle panel (the bit at bottom of windscreen). pull it up and youll see it and its fixed down with plastic bit.

possibly changing it would help

Thanks. Sounds like I'm going to break something!!!

Photo Pinched from RobClubleys website but i'm sure he wont mind.

Thats it top right of the bay.

Cool. That is the same place where the blocked drain was... 2+2=?!

Yay! My photos strike again :D

Other possibility would be that the rear washer hose is disconnected in the boot (side, near the rear lights, and probably under the CD stacker if applicable.

little bit OT but does anyone else have a hole with no plug upder there spare wheel? it about 10mm in diameter and assumed it was just a drain

but though id check to make sure its not meant to be plugged!

I think mine has a plug in it......

Thanks for the replies. No water or moisture in the boot or where the CD changer is. Rear washer works fine. As I said... the car is bone dry apart from the air that comes in from the vents!!!

So how do I actually remove this? Brute force and ignorance or is there a technique involved.

Start at the outer edge and pull it upwards, at 90 degrees to the windscreen.

It snaps in and out of a slot in the bottom of the screen.

Don't try to lever it with a screwdriver or anything as one member here cracked his windscreen doing that!!

This maybe a stupid question :o

But you don't have you heater controls set to Re-Circulate?

How about aircon drain pipe into the car? therefore aircon keeps the cabin dry when it is on....
