Washer bottle: disconnected pipe

Featured Replies

Hi all

I noticed the other day that, when I push the windscreen wiper stalk forward for rear wash-wipe on my 2003 Octavia MK1 estate, the entire contents of the washer bottle under the bonnet is conveniently deposited over the engine bay and on to the road.

I have discovered that the pipe which (I take it) connects to the pump to take water to the rear of the car is not connected (hanging loose underneath the water bottle.) Removing the bottle seems trivial according to my Haynes manual (the engine is 1,9 SDI).

Has anyone had this problem? I'm wondering whether the pipe is likely to have broken / perished and torn or whether it has just popped off somehow. How is the connection to the pump made? I was thinking of using a cable tie or a small jubilee clip when I get into it at the weekend to stop the same thing happening again.

Many thanks for any help.

i had this.

for the love of god dont reconnect it and try it without checking something first!!

as i did, and ended up blowing the hose off inside the boot lid, which was a turd to get to.

open up a paper clip and clean out the rear jets. give them a real good clean to free them up. they just get gooked up with spuff. plug the hose back on and off ya go!

personally i wouldnt put a zip/jubilee clip on the hose under the bonnet. Leave that join as your weak point, as its easy to fix there. if you strengthen that joint, all that will happen is that it'll blow somewhere else next time, less convenient.

as a note i did use zip ties to secure the hose connections within the boot lid.

Pull off the skuttle panel and its joined in the middle, simply pop the connector back on.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'll investigate on Saturday.

You really miss the rear wash-wipe on the estate because the back of the car gets dirty very quickly.
