Climatronic questions..

Featured Replies

Got a couple of questions about Climatronic on my Octy vRS

Can vagcom show the pressure/amount of airconditioning stuff left in the system, because mine doesnt seem to work... the clutch engages and the rad fans come on, and theres a strange buzzing/gurgling noise from behind the glovebox but the air doesnt get any colder

Anyone know why theres a buzzing/whirring noise behind the glovebox, only when the AC is ON.. it sounds like another motor, but i dont think there is a motor/system thats active just when the AC is on :confused:

It will only show a pressure fault if the system is low enough for the pressure switch to recognise it.

Ive sorted this out now... took it to Kwik-Fit to have the aircon regassed.. i figured its never been done and the car is almost 7 years old now

Its all done by machine these days so they just plug it in and it draws out the old refrigerant and oil, pressure-tests it and then refills to manufactuer spec... all for a reasonable £45

My car only had about 1/4 the amount it should have had in which explains the gurgling noise... so no more gurgling and now i have very very chilly air con :D

Excellent.

It's common on Octys for the clutch for the compressor to self destruct and that's much more expensive than your regas.

Hehe.. Consider the age of the cars.

The Aircon kinda permiates around 10% of the refrigerant every year (just like fridges) so considering my car is around 7yrs old it works out about right.

I do have to give props to Kwikfit tho... although its not really something they can mess up with it being all done on machine lol... a guy in a beemer 5series came back and shouted at them for marking his alloys while i was there  and at £45 (or £25 if your unfortunate enough to have already spent £50 with them) is a pretty good deal

Are the recharge cans from ebay, halfords, etc any good? Also does anyone know where the low pressure filler valve is located on the octi?

TBH i would just let a Pro do it, as ideally you are suppost to drain/replace the oil and refrigerant up to a certain capacity.

Theres one valve on the front left next to the radiator, the other one is at the right-back hand side of the engine next to the bulkhead

TBH i would just let a Pro do it,

But you still went to kwik fit

They have a machine.. there isnt really anything to mess up!

Same machine we have at the dealers so same job. Its fully automatic so as long as you enter the correct ammount of gas to put in there really isnt anything to do wrong.
