Windscreen Cracks

Featured Replies

Hello Ladies and Gents,

Back last August I had to have a new front screen fitted as a crack had developed in the lower middle of the screen.

I have had the car virtually from new(04) Sometime before the original scrrem cracked itwas hit by a stone and it left a minute "dink" in the glass and it was almost unoticable, in fact my previuos Mondeo had one for many years without any further speading.

Hower I digress,,, the "dink" in the Octy suddenly turned over night in to a Z shaped crack as mentioned in the middle bottom of the screen.

This was replaced by Autoglass last late August and all was well. Until this morning 6.4.08, guess what? I have an identical crack in the replacement same shape same position.

I have e-mailed autoglass and will await their response and I will be on the phone to them tomorrow, its Sunday today, as I wish to see if I am entitled to any warranty.

I have also given this some thought and I wonder if either of these theories hold any water?

1) It snowed last night, about two inches and seemed quite cold, then it became really quite warm suddenly. The car was parked on the front of an eastward facing house soooooo............Thermal Shock?? probalby not eh?

2) For conveniance I park the car on the drive which slopes and then runs left and still slopes a bit, so the car is not quite level, is this cracking caused by body twist????

I have previously read post on this excellent site concerning similar problems but my Mondeo which also had a bonded screen was not affected and I dont really condsider that this issue is one which should happen .

As far as I know the second screen has not been "bricked or stoned" and its not as if the unlevel ground is hidiously unlevel either, just sort of slightly sloping and at a slight angle.

Any Thoughts

Did they actually replace the screen, or just repair it?

If the latter, I suppose the repair could have failed somehow (I'm just guessing of course).
