2001 Octavia 110BHP Full service help!!

Featured Replies

First off I apologise for asking a question with my first post I just can not find the answers on google.

My Octavia has 153,000 miles.

Its going strong. I was going to change it but figured sink some

money into and I'll get another 50,000 :)

I bought in April and its had problems basically I got done by the Dealership :(

I got the alt belt tensioner done in November. But didn't change the belt the mechanic said I didn't need to but he was spraying wd40 on it because "it was dry" when I showed up....

But the car is going grand. There is a bit of power loss/difficult to maintain 100km with out drinking the diesel. My MPG for last 1051 miles is 66.5MPG

The car also sits at an angle. Lower on the front drivers side. Shocks or just a spring?

It also has a tendency to wobble on bends and the straight line at about 100km - 120km. is that the bushings?

First what belts does the car contain. T-Belt and alternator belt?

I want to give it the works new belts(s) filters water pump etc... to be sure to be sure. What do you as experts in your field recommend i get done?

How much would it cost?

What parts do I need?

Contemplating getting the parts myself and going to an independent.

I know its a lot of questions but I have googled like hell and cant get clear answers.

I'm not a gear head all though I would like to be ;)

Thank you folks.

The low front corner makes me think broken spring(quite common). The unsteady handling sound like a bushing problem or low tyre pressure.

Thank you 4x4t

the belt should have definatly been done along with the tensioner kit, waterpump isnt nessacery if it isnt leaking, if your coolent temps are all ok then just leave it for the mean while. Obvviosly change engine oil, fuel filter and oil filter, if you love your car then you will get the top noch oil such as casterol GTX magnatech edge 5w-40. Might also be worth getting the gearbox oil done at the same time.

Service side, will cost you about £80 from halfords for the oils and filters, if youve got a traders card then it comes to £55, i know as ive got one :)

Best to see your local garage about the belts, belts arnt to expensive, its the tensioner kitwhich is the money.-

I'm in Ireland.

We pay dearly for sub standard everything. it's unavoidable... Really!!

I'd change the spring, then see if the handling sorts itself out before going chasing issues with bushes, ball joints, warped wheels or tyres and the like.

I had a broken drivers front spring. Common prob, and only about £30 from dealers. Check the colour coding on the spring to match up. (Coloured bands on spring) They are different for diesel and petrol!
