Retrofitting cornering light

Featured Replies

Hi all!

Couple of months after I got my octy II, Skoda decided to release the cornering light as an option. I would have wanted that, but retrofitting the OEM cornering light is not possible. But, alas, Hella comes to the rescue:

Drivers | Hella Limited

(Look for the "Dyna Beam")

The kit comes with wiring, control unit and lamps/brackets. Seems that they are fitted with H7, where the Octy II fog lamp is H8. If there's a way to fit the H7 into the fog light H8, then one has the opportunity to retrofit this feature, with no need for mounting lamp casing and brackets (which will look too corny anyway).

If you want to know more send a pm to Baker21 as he works for hella.

Like the ones that swivel the whole beam, but hate the fog light ones though. :(

if you have moder year 2007 with 30 byte central control unit it can be coded with long coding... no problem at all

Yeah, but this does not work, I think there are some relay modules needed that fade the cornering lights in/out.

Of course it works, I have coded two of my friends car and it works....

doesn't look cheap though?

My Octavia is an MY08 L&K estate model, have tried setting this in the long coding (no faults reported back), however it does not work.

Looks like another item they've disabled to stop us playing with.

(Steering assist is another one).

What other models have you got this working on then?

How do the lamps operate? Do they fade in/out or are they switched on/Off.

Can you hear a relay clicking as they operate?

Is there a fuse required to enable the operation?

Did the other cars have the tunnel lighting/Rain Sensor kits?. This may have an influence on their operation.

Lots of questions there, but if theres something small I've missed.

surely you need the cornering light hardware installed as well as configuring in VAGCom - or have you done this phiL&K?

If so, how much did the Hella kit cost?

Cornering lights on the skoda cars that i have seen are just that really nasty system of turning on a single fog light on that side of the car.

Not the nice fully steerable system.

The way it works in Octy is that under speeds of 30km/h it lights the fog light on that side where you are turning. The light doesn't turn or anything it just fades in and out.

So I presume there's a similar CAN slave unit as in Hella's version, which is controlled by the cars central electronics. And that unit handles the switching of the fog lights physically. If you order the car without this feature I can bet my balls that there's no extra unit and wiring harness installed and that's why the coding DOES NOT work. The extra price of 260 euros doesn't come from just coding difference. Not like in CH/LH lights case.

My 2 cents....

Would be interesting to know if this is possible for retrofit to MY08 cars, using OEM parts ?

I agree: seems utterly pointless, especially when you have a decent set of Hid's. The additional foglight illumination is akin to adding a candle in a brown bottle!

Dumb question maybe, but how do I know if i have a 30 byte central unit?

On my 2009 Octavia Ambiente Tsi, it was just a matter of coding. 1 minute with VCDS = cornering lights.

Talk about resurrecting an old thread!!
