Pug 2.0 XSI

Featured Replies

Anybody familiar with the 2.0 petrol engine used in the 306 XSI.

Seen one with a blown head gasket and wondering how hard a task it would be and what sort of damage is likely.

Are these usually a head re skimming job and is it steel or aluminium etc.

Any ideas on parts costs for the gasket and whatever else is required.

not familiar with the engine , but guessing i would say it has an alloy head , could possibly have wet liners also

Hmm well if that is the case then I'm not sure I'd bother. Buyer is looking for £200 but I think £100-150 should be quite attainable.

I'd only buy it if I could DIY it and easily get the head skimmed if needed.:(

it sounds reasonably cheap , but i would find out first what caused the head gasket failure , lack of coolant could be the easy answer , but if it has been run for some time with no coolant , i would suspect piston/bore damage as well as head warping

Been trying to find out. The seller said something along the lines of runs fine but overheats if sat in traffic and blames a head gasket. As yet I have not managed to contact them.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a sticky stat and a radiator fan not working. My worry then is that if that is the case what damage would be done in the process of shagging the head gasket.

I know the XUD9 just fine inside, but never ventured into a pug petrol engine.

Why don't you try getting some info from Pug306.net

Ive registered before to find out the cambelt change interval for the other halfs car (with the XUD9 engine as you speak above).

You should be able to dig up some info from there.

A quick check of some Haynes' says non-liner cast iron block on the 2.0l; it fails to mention head material though, but does indicate that they can be skimmed.
