Rear Bump Stop Replace

Featured Replies

When my girlfriends fabia went in for its last service they said it needed new bump stops on the back. They wanted £132 to fit the 2 £6 parts so i said i'll do it. I've taken a photo of the worst one where it looks like the bump stop has broken in 2.

The lower half of the bump stop is wedged inside the plastic damper cover.

My questions are:

Do i need to get a new damper or when i put the new bump stop in do i just push it into the plastic cover?

How does the bump stop fix at the top is it clamped in using a bracket or something? I can't really see much yet without taking out the large internal plastic wheel arch protector.

Any tips will be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Tim

You need to remove the wheel arch liner to reaveal the two securing bolts for the aluminuim top mount. Undo them and remove the assembly complete.

Inside the top mount is a nut which holds that onto the top of the shock absorber, undo that and it will come off and then allow you to swap the bump stop.

The bumps stop does fit inside the plastic cover and inside the top mount.

Obviously you'll need to jack up and support the car (Not on the rear beam) and undo the lower mounting bolt.

Might be worth considering new shock absorbers while you are at it.

£6 ... you got a bargain !:D

I'm just about to do this job on SWMBO's Fabia estate 2 x 6Q0512131B "BUFFERS" as Skoda like to call them in a nice bright yellow colour (Yellow! ...what's that all about?) & with a 10% discount came to a grand total of £17.51 inc V.A.T. !

Still, we shouldn't complain eh, it's better than paying out £132 ! :D

Thanks for your advice guys.

How much do you reckon the standard shocks would be for the rear?

The cars done 130000miles now and i guess they're still original.

Thanks,

Tim

Try a dealer and GSF or ECP

Did the job this afternoon, took just on 1hr to do both sides, I don't for the life of me know where they get £132 from !

£132 @ £90 per hour +VAT isn't very long really ;)

Would have to be nearer £100 per hour + V.A.T. + parts.

Not the most difficult job in the world T.B.H. & I mean £132 ..strewth !
