Octavia newbie with a few questions

Featured Replies

Hi all, i'm a newbie (well, i signed up ages ago to ask questions for a friend) having just bought and Octavia this morning. I got an X Reg (2000) SLX TDi in mint condition, 75k on the clock, with full Skoda history, for only £2150! Well pleased.

Anyway, i've a few questions if anyone would like to help or point me in the right direction. :)

1. My car has had a cambelt at 74k, are they specced for 60k or 80k? I thought it was 60k on these engines, but with full Skoda history i'm suprised it was not done at 60k.

2. When i called the dealer, the salesman i spoke to says it's "too old" to have cruise control fitted, is this true? I assumed i could buy this: ebay clicky and then have someone make the necessary changes in VAG-COM?

3. How difficult is it to fit some parking sensors? Mrs Eltax is already moaning about the rear visability for parking. :D

4. Could someone point me to information about remap's for these engines? I had a 306 HDi and self remapped it (so have kwp 2000 kit) - is this sort of thing possible with this engine?

5. Oh and what's the deal with the positioning for the cigar lighter? It's a bit crap for sat nav - is this easily re-located?

Cheers all, i thank you all in advance for your help.

Cambelt is 60k or 4 years so its probably on its 3rd belt now as its hit 8 years old

Parking sensors are quite easy to fit my aftermarket ones from ebay cost £30 and had 2 wires, 1 to earth and 1 that tapped into the reverse light positive which powers it when reverse is engaged.

As for cruise control does your car have an EPC light when you turn the key if so it should be easy to fit. But go to https://sslrelay.com/s74326199.oneandoneshop.co.uk/sess/utn;jsessionid=154713f703c6a3e/shopdata/index.shopscript as you can buy that kit for about £55 delivered, search for part number 1J0998527*

Cant offer info on remaps or moving the cigarette lighter socket but others will help here I'm sure :)

For information on remaps, do a search - there's loads of threads on the subject.

And as for the lighter socket, I bought a socket from RS components, wired it into the power to the stereo head unit and ran it down the back of the dash. - it's all pretty easy to get to.

I figure a GPS or a phone charger will draw so little current it won't affect the HU.

I've never had any issues.
