vRS estate removable towbar

Featured Replies

Can any one show me some pics of there towbar removed on a vRS estate, does the bumper require cutting? do you end up with some nasty mounting bracket on show with the ball removed?

Cheers

Dan

I have the Skoda removable bar on my hatch & when the bar isn't connected there is nothing to see, even the electrics fold out of sight! The bumper didn't require cutting as the "cut out" is already there.

I think if you search the forum there are some photos, (I checked it out before ordering it to be fitted to my car) but not sure if they are of an estate or hatch.

If some one is going to do it for you, just watch for broken trim & them not putting all the clips back where they should be! I had loads of bits in the spare wheel well and had to go back to get them to put it right!!

Still i'm delighted with the actual Skoda product!!

I have a fixed brink bracket on mine, not what you want I know, but the brink doesn't require the bumper to be cut so maybe their removable would be the same.

Have seen a vRS saloon with a removable bar which had a huge gash in the bumper which was every bit as obvious as a fixed bar!

Can post a pic of mine if you want.

please, id be interested to see a fixed one aswell

only reason i want a removable one is to hide it completely when my bike rack isnt on it, if it doesn't dissapear i might aswell have a fixed one and save some cash

You need to check that your bike rack will fit to a "swan neck" style bar if you are thinking of the Skoda removable one.

I thought that many bike racks needed a traditional fixed 2 bolt affair for stability?

Here is the link to VRstu 's fittment of the Skoda bar to an Octy II estate:

Bolth of these are very informative:)

I have a westfalia vertical drop out tow bar, you cannot see it at all when its off. I use a pendle tow ball mount bike rack which holds on by the wheels, I used to have the 2 bolt fixed version on my golf but I wanted my VRS to loo better. Only thing is the rack sits higher then the 2 bolt version no big deal I had 2 dh bikes on it - the only thing was the tyre pressure monitor complianed - reset it at standstill and it was fine. This week end I pick up my brian james car trailer so we'll see how well it tows.
