Bought a new car

Featured Replies

I bought a slightly different skoda with 2.0 tfsi engine but it's called a golf :)

I would have bought a octavia vrs but i really wanted dsg so their marketing trick worked and i bought a golf.

I've passed 4000 miles already so i have a lot of impressions. When comparing to my fabia, interior is much better, leather is pretty nice and all those hi tech gadgets are pretty nice touch(electric folding mirrors, usb mp3 music, auto wipers and zennons, etc). It's quite firm but i've already ordered koni FSDs so that should be better :) Dont get me wrong it's not uncomfortable but my fabia with eibach/koni fsd combo is noticably softer. Seats are supportive and it's not so easy to get in and out but i guess that's the price you pay for not moving in your seat in hard corners. I can only imagine how unpractical and firm honda CTR is.

I'm very satisfied with dsg, it works really well in combination with silky smooth 2.0 tfsi engine and even though sometimes i miss the manual all in all i dont regret getting it because you can really have fun with it and yet when you want you can drive it relaxed(10% of the time :) ).

Now the performance part :)

This is my first petrol car and im used to have big torque low down so i expect it to be strong when you are just >2000 rpm and it is almost(i say almost) as strong as my fabia when going from 2 to 3k rpm but then it continues pulling till 6.5k and fabia stops at 3.5k. It's not so strong when you go >50 mph and pull from below 2k rpm, you need to downshift(in tdi you dont have to). But second gear arround 2.5k rpm pulls really well and it's quite fun and it kinda forces you to drive it hard all the time, already had to bribe the cops 3 times.

The most surprising part is the handling. It grips so well it scared me when i started driving it because i knew my limits are much higher now :) It tends to oversteer but esp does it's work but not too intrusive. I realised what the term "turn in" really means :) Car is made for fast corners rather than slow ones but it's great in every case. But then again my previous car was tdi fabia which isn't so great handling car... In city driving in furby i had arround 38 mpg and in this i have arround 18 mpg when driving it quickly so it is quite more expensive to run, not to mention it costed almost as twice as fabia.

All in all it's in a different league than the fabia and i guess the price grows exponentialy when you want to go higher, but it also made me appreciate all the fabias qualities. For the end here are some pics of the golf :)

Thanks all. Im thinking of getting forge dv, uprated fuel pump, downpipe, pcv valve and some map so i can have some more oomph. Anyone interested in being the middle man? :)

lovely mate i like them in white also good choice

Yes yes and yes again , I love the Mk5 GTI , and White is by far the nicest colour to get one in! Ive not tried a car with DSG though , I suppose I'd be happy with a standard manual 3 door one with the check cloth , but with the 18s. Well , I can dream!

I can only imagine how unpractical and firm honda CTR is.

Don't start this again.

- I will say. I love the GTI and in a few years will be looking at getting one myself. Cracking car and looks great it white - Enjoy.

Lovely car mate!

I too was a little weary of going for a petrol after being spoiled by many cars with great diesel engines - but no regrets yet!!! :D

My mate has a DSG Edition 30 with an APR Re-Map (almost 300bhp) it goes like fook! The DSG 'box is a revelation! Now if I can work out how to fit one in my rado :)

ctr is a hell of a car i know that i just said if my golf is this firm and hard to get in i can only imagine what's it like in the ctr as i've heard it's much firmer and has much more sporty seats.

Another thing... when i was ordering this car in the end of november 2007 there was no bmw 135, but today you can get one with m pack and nothing else for 6k euros more than i paid for the golf. In that time there was no car in that price range that fulfilled my needs like the gti but 135 is pretty good when i saw it in person... Well maybe in 2 years...
