Perhaps a naive question from a non expert.

The auto CD changer in my new Octavia Elegance 1.9 DSG, works beautifully on conventional shop bought CDs, but I have several CDs burnt from my computer collection of music. The changer doesn't seem to recognise these at all but I can play them in the single front slot on the radio. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

I must say that I am very pleased with everything else on the car so far.

Nice to meet you all and to read your comments. Tosker

I've only ever tried originals in mine , but I'm surprised that it doesn't like home made disks.

Are you using CD-Rs or CD-RWs?

Are they a decent brand or no-name cheapies?

Are they mp3 cd's? if so it is because only the head unit is mp3 compatible. If they are normal cd's burnt onto a cdr then I suppose it is just not able to read them.

are you finalising the disc after burning?

In my last car , a MK1 Octy 4x4T the cd changer would recognise brand name discs, but not the multi buy 100 for a fiver type!

The CDs are Tevion CD-R, and are in MP3 format. I believe the computer programme automatically finalises the disc after burning, (at least that's what it tells me?)

My old changer played CD-R's with no problems. The discs were premium quality, were burnt at low speed and the files were finalised to be played on a standard CD player.

.....and are in MP3 format. ...

That's the key there. As Roo stated, the head unit can play MP3's but the multichanger at the back can only read normal CD's.

are you putting them in the correct way up?

In case you missed it, the CD changer does not play MP3s...Only the in dash (head) unit does that.

Rather annoying in my experience.

I think the factory multichanger in mine didn't like CDRs. Never use it though now.

Multichanger in the VRS plays CDRs fine with me. I never keep originals in the car since getting a lot nicked.

As mentioned no MP3s in the multichanger only in the head unit. And only MP3 no WMA, OGG or ACC.
