Not read it yet, but it is a test between the new Peugeot 407, Mondeo, Avensis, Passat, Vectra, and the new Octavia.

Octavia tested was a 2.0 TDi Elegance.

What Car? August 2004 issue

..the winner is the Skoda Octavia. It's great to drive and the cabin has all the space and class that owners could wish for.

The Octavia falls a little short for refinement and you have to pay extra for curtain airbags and stability control, but it is well equipped in every respect and looks excellent value for money.....

Not that cheap though at

I,ve driven the 1.9PD 105bhp Elegance, and was so impressed that I ordered a stone grey one with an august build date. The steering, ride and handling are leagues ahead of my present 130PD Elegance estate, obviously it lags behind a little in power but i can,t justify the extra

The above group test makes my point completely about class of car an Octy is ie a Passat rival not a Golf rival.
