Steering Vibration

Featured Replies

Was wondering if anyone has encountered this problem. I have a 2004 octavia VRS and when accelerating between 60-80 i get a weird vibration coming through the steering.Just replaced off side steering arm and trackrod end due to small amount of movement and although it has made a small improvment i am still getting a vibration. There is a small amount of movement from the bushes on the wishbones. Could this be causing my problem.

Could be bushes but I'm inclined to think front tyre balancing or tracking.

Maybe try swapping fronts to back and see if that helps the problem, if the vibration stops or appears to be coming through the seat rather than steering after swapping them over it is most certainly balancing

balancing on the tyres I would suggest. Also worth ensuring the pressures are correct as well.

I agree on the pressures and tracking

You may have a slightly buckled wheel. I had the same problem with my last car and it was bent, so another vote for getting the wheel balances checked.

I had the same problem a couple of months back. I had two new tyres that did not solve the problem. I took it to another garage and it turned out to be the balance and tracking. It has also been realined. I've had no problems with the steering since.

Defo; wheel balance...get your tyre shop to calibrate their balancer before doing your wheels and make sure the wheel is "back coned" before balancing...Better still bring it to me and i will "finger plate" balance them for you

cheers guys, thought it could be something like that only dissmised it cos it only does it under acceleration between 60-80.

I'm having a very similar problem, doesn't vibrate normaly at any of those speeds but upon full acceleration it does.

I am also getting a lovely clunking noise which is due to my Anti roll bar bushes needing replaced, i wonder if the vibration and the worn bushes are related cause both these problems started at the same time :(
