Unable To Select Gears

Featured Replies

I have a 2002 Octavia VRS & I am currently having problems with selecting any gears.

I went shopping the other day, left it in the carpark for a couple hours, came back & I could hardly put it into gear. This gradually got worse before being unable to select any gear without a lot of force. I can select all gears when engine is off & the car will find the biting point.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem before & what is causing it?

I had a similar problem, my clutch had broken. My car was fine one night, next morning I couldn't get 1st or reverse. 3 new clutches, 1 new flywheel and a master cylinder later it seems to be sorted.

try re-aligning the shifter cable before anything else. The specific details can be found here: Sigma 6 SS Install Manual where is says adjustment.

really simple after you've done it once....

You unclip the cables over the tranny (twist and pull).

All you need is a nail/drill bit to lock your gearknob into it's "home" position and then twist a little lever on the tranny to put it into the right position. Reclip the cables and you're sorted.

May just be that your shifter cables have stretched, gotten loose.

If this procedure doesnt work - then you need some professional help to sort it out...

Good luck!

yeah check where the cable joins the selector lever on the gearbox. A crappy plastic component.

Linkage, or dogbone, or if the issues only arise with the engine running, clutch slave cylinder, master cylinder or clutch itself!

brother had something which sounds similar and it turned out that something was fouling the "hockey stick" gear selector...arm...thing...:o

Under the car, around the cat and downpipe area? if so, it's plausible, but needs a channel lift, not a wheel-free, to check.
