space under the radio/CD - what to fill it with?

Featured Replies

There's a 1-DIN space under the CD/radio that begs to be filled with some semi-pointless accessory such as a fold out out cup holder or other electronic goodies.

Has anyone done anything like this?

I have a drawer from the Fabia Elegance model, and I have drilled a hole in the back of it through which I have fed a Dension Ice>Link Plus cable to connect my iPod. So my iPod is now able to sit out of sight in a neat little iPod sized drawer whilst being plugged into the Symphony head unit. I love it.

Re: the drawer, thanks, i'll look into that.

Where do you get the drawr from and was it simple to fit?

Re: the sweets, thats a good one too, more of a wine gums fan though

I have the polo money tray & cupholder DIN thingy. Works nicely, although the half DIN slot above it is pretty pointless as so thin.

I got my drawer from SkoSpares.co.uk second hand. Dead easy to fit, just take the stereo out (no need to disconnect the wires etc), take out the old cubby hole, and whack the drawer in in its place. As I mentioned, I'd done some DIY work the the back of the drawer before I fitted mine, but this is purely optional. :D

Din sized gauge holder and some natty gauges.

or if ur boring a din size blanking plate

Just a few photos to illustrate what the Elegance Storage Drawer looks like. I also have a cup holder installed to the side of the stereo, and the two do not interfere with one another, even when both are open.

What I like about the setup is that with the drawer shut, there are no indications to prying eyes that there is an iPod hooked up to the car, so I can leave it in there if I so wish (though obviously I never do overnight), and it is a lot handier than having the cable running to the glove box.

I've got one of these to fit in the headunit slot in my Golf.

I've emailed Skospares to see if they have any. Anywhere else I could get one of these from?

ive never seen one of them cup holder slots before!! why didnt they fit a couple in the VRS model?? Its a bit of inexpensive plastic..surely the vrs should have come with them standard...grrr might have to go get one now as the cup holder behind the hand brake is fiddly..

Skoda dealer.

They were fitted in the Elegance, the vRS isn't top spec, basically a sporty ambient so doesn't get elec windows all around etc.

IIRC you can only fit one cup holder on the left hand side.

I bought a in dash CD Changer that was meant for an Audi and hooked it upto the CD Player.

just wish the changer didn't have Audi writen on it but still looks good!

Wish mine had a cup holder though.

that would be really useful.
