I'm looking for a USB diagnostic cable from ebay what interface does the VRS have. ODBII or CAN?

The ODBII ones are only about £11 with VAG-COM

OBDII will work.

However its not guranteed that the cable will work and with the shareware version of VAG COM your options are limited.

Plenty of info on the site and a whole section devoted to VAG COm, take a look.
