New Scout for Business & Chase Car

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just about to aquire new Scout 2.0 PD TDI for business purposes (25000 pa). Reason for Scout is that I also manage a rally team and drive Chase (sorry Management)car. I will be towing and doing emergency repairs on a 98 WRC Scoobie. This requires the ability to carry 500Kg approx. of spares and fluids during rally, and to tow 1250 Kg of rally car to and from. Trailer 650Kg approx.

A couple of questions therefore:

1. does any one out there know the full regs on towing. Scout listed as 1600 Kg towing capacity but is this a legal requirement provided that the GTW is under the legal limit for the car. Trailer is plated @2600kg. so a 1250Kg car on it is well legal. Towing weight is likely to be 1900kg approx/. but with car empty of spares GTW is still under spec. Comments please.

2. Chipping Scout seems a good idea (Bluefin for preference) both for towing and keeping up with my driver (chase cars are supposed to stay behind the rally car when on road sections in case anything falls off, this is difficult when you make 140bhp and carry 500Kg of spares and the rally car makes 300BHP). Does any one have experience with uprated rear springs for the Scout, and would a rear ARB (do Scouts have these) help. If they do have one, what diameter and what uprated one to fit? Does this make the unloaded scout too rear endy in normal life? Would an uprated Haldex (presumably from awesome or one of the TT sites) be appropriate. I assume that Scout is Gen II Haldex without the new PreX stuff.

3. Trying for anthracite grey, not seen any real pix of this combination so I will post some when it arrives if someone can explain how to do so. IT manager for Engineering firm, but never used a forum to post before.

4. Complements all round by the way. Best forum I have ever looked at. Greatest reason for going SKODA. Previous Chase Cars: 3 off Sierra 4x4 2.9 Estates, great engine but handling was soggy even with uprated stuff and the fuel bowser I was forced to tow was unpleasant. Then the dreadful Mondeo 2.5 V6 Estate, 2 wheel drive with one wheel on a damp welsh verge is embarassing. Hopeful of great things from the Octy's Haldex. This forum seems to have the knowledge to enable me to modify the Octy to suit. You could search in vain for any similar info on Fords.

Probably too long a post, sorry first one I have done!

PS what are the little pictures for?

Hello and welcome.

welcome along to briskoda.

Welcome :)

Hello and welcome. I may be talking out of my bee-hind, but I always understood it that a car cannot legally tow anything which weighs more that it does. But don't hold me to that.

Welcome to Briskoda

I'm afraid I've got a two wheel drive Furby so can't answer any of your questions :o If you post it in the Octy II section you'll have more luck the right people see it.
