Misting and auto-dim mirror.

Featured Replies

Hello all, Two questions here. 1, been looking through the archives about windscreen misting but can't find anything. Anyone had the same problem? ( Octy estate ). 2, I originally ordered my car with auto-dim rear view mirror ( 'cos I had it on my Passat and liked it) but because of a **** up I never got it. I asked the dealer about getting a mirror and was told " Factory fit only". Is this true or can I get one? The car has dual-zone climate control. Appreciate any replies.:)

I had the same problem with the misting, I tried a few things together so Im not sure which one cured the prob, heres what I did:

1. Ran the aircon full heat, full power for about ten mins.

Cleaned the windows with fast glass

2. The next few days turned the aircon off manually about five mins before the end of a journey.

manually turned it on in the morning at very low speed and kept it off the window setting until car warmed up.

3. One week later just set it to Auto+Econ and let it do its own thing. Since this its been really well behaved, no trouble with steamy windows anymore!

hope this helps.

daz_pd has hit the nail on the head -

1) Make sure the screen is clean and

2) keep the aircon on

I think the auto dimming mirror is a factory fit.

Some other causes for misting are:

A water leak somwehere letting water get into the cabin (look for moisture under carpets etc).

Wet objects in the cabin (towels, wetsuits, kites, dogs etc).

Air con condenser dripping water inside the car instead of outside where it should be going.

Air con usually helps, as it extracts moisture from the cabin air.

I have a misting problem also. If the weather is cold and damp the car is undrivable. I need to sort it out before winter sets in. I've been to two Skoda dealers but they have failed to fix it. I've checked pollen filter and water ingress etc and also it does not appear to be stuck in recycle. Anyone help

Move to the south of France? I have never had real misting problems but if there is a slight problem the anti-mist button clears it in seconds!

Thanks! makes more sense then the Skoda dealers I've been daeling with. I don't think my wife will come with me so getting rid (of the Skoda) seems the only option.

New pollen filter.

Also if there is moisture in the air con system it will appear when you first start the car.

A new pollen filter was the first suggestion to cure the problem however I have a new pollen filter fitted every year and still the misting occurs. Whether or not there is moisture in the air con I would not know. If there is then how do you get rid of it and why should it cause a problem now after several years.
