Hello everyone...

I'm the :) owner of two Octy TDIs, a 2000 SLX hatch and a 2003 Elegance Estate. The first Octy we had was new in 99, the engine on that made very expensive noises which the main dealer couldn't diagnose or fix, clocked at just 66k, but I kept the faith and traded that in for the 03 one.

That first car even went all the way back to its Mlada Boleslav birthplace, via Germany and Austria. The Czech Republic is a great holiday destination, especially Kutna Hora. Anyway, we checked out the excellent Skoda museum at Mlada Boleslav, so that's brand loyalty for you.

I'm a middle aged grumpy git, not sociable at all, just here to check out occasional fault finding, diagnosis, parts availabilty etc. You whippersnapper  :cool: VRs boy racer types will have seen me doing a steady cruise controlled 60 on the A1, while I'm dong 70+ mpg, and being very very smug. I'll stay on the road longer as the fuel prices go ever upwards - with global crude oil production flatlined these past four years, and likely to start falling, that's a certainty. See, I told you I was grumpy.

When the recently announced Golf diesel hybrid proves itself reliable and finds its way under a Octavia (Mk 3?), I'll be there ready to trade in (if the economy is still functioning), and it'll pay for itself, especially once we see £4 a litre, by around 2013. Seriously.

Doctor Doctor...

Not a lurker here, so don't know anyone, I'm afraid. But thanks to all for the warm welcome. Suppose that reflects the very broad appeal of the most excellent Skoda brand... Hey, I saw an 06 electric blue VRs for a mere £12k while at the dealers today. Petrol alas, so ruled out immediately. But it looked gorgeous...

Then the logical side of my brain kicked in real quick - flatly ruling out the diesel as well. "Waste of £10k, less fuel efficient, when you'll need to feed the wife and Irish Setters first anyway, more profit to the insurance company, and going fast is so damned SCARY and could kill you and others... "

Last week one of those VRs's  chappies overtook me. If it had been a convertible, he'd have had a white scarf and fly-speckled teeth. :D Then he got stuck behind a granny in an Allegro. I got to my destination (work) at the very same time for much less £££. Ah well... maybe one day the parsimonius cheesparing Skoda Owner side that's terrified of Peak Oil will give in to the Ultimate Oil Burning Skoda Owner trying to get out. ;).
