Uprated turbo to work with OEM setup

Featured Replies

Anyone know of a stronger turbo to replace the standard kkk jobbie??

I want to utilise the OEM intercooler and keep my 170 bhp remap.

Anything that will fit and be stronger and not give me problems, plan on keeping the car a good few years??

cheers

Allard do an excellent range of turbos.

There is no reason why you could not put in a VT1, maybe get the ECU remapped again to ensure its producing the BHP your after, so 170BHP and then there is no risk of your turbo blowing as it can handle up to 195BHP.

Allard Motor Company

Nobody does that however because its not longer a cheap way of producing 170BHP. You might as well spend abit more on a clutch aswell and actually get a remap too 190.

But if your after an ultra reliable 170BHP with no risk of failure then I guess the VT1 is the way to go - and if you give them your KKK it should only set you back £550.

Go for the VT2. :) The VT1 is barely more than a pd150 turbo. The VT2 has many more uprated parts for not much more cost. :)

Just a question Jason, whilst I think I know the answer from searching earlier - is the VT2, like the VT1 literally a direct fit. Just bolt on, all the oil feed pipes are the same...the manifold flanges...etc... All identical?

Also are you running a unit from the VT nomenclature?

Right got a Helix and SMF.

Would allard fit the turbo and keep the KKK one?

So the VT1 would be fine with OEM intercooler? and the VT2??

Dont really want to go to the hassle of a IC and further Remap as Longevity of the Turbo is my main concern as im happy with the car just want it to be reliable :)

Yeah - it is, as is the VT3 I think. The VT4 and 5 use special manifolds and need custom oil feed lines too.

Jason - their prices are usually based on exchange - or at least they quote with/without it. You might you get more for your KKK second hand then their trade-in.

Hmmm could do, it has done 50k and been remapped so could be nearly shot

Sorry for all the Q's but can the Vt2 be used with OEM IC?? Also would the VT1 be reliable running at 190/195 if i wished to remap further?

Im in a pickle...

VT1 sounds good i think

No - VT2 sounds good ;) Thing with turbos is its best to push a bigger turbo less, than a smaller turbo hard, to achieve XXX. :) VT2 works fine with oem IC

So VT2 with OEM setup at 170bhp will last years??

And maybe remap to 190 with standard IC?

And if i feel crazy a FMIC in a year or two??

Sounds like a plan to me ;)

thats exactly what allen said to me, vt2. going to cost me about 2500 or more :o

So looks like a T2 then

Anyone clued up on what these can run at on the OEM IC??

Also whats the max bhp of the T2 and then a T2 Hybrid.

Im thinking 200bhp would be nice??

They will run at anything on the standard IC.

But youll put your foot down and it will just lagg and smoke when you get heat soak....... and you will get heat soak with the standard ic.

i would say 190bhp to 200bhp on a cold day.

so ideally a t2 needs a FMIC then. So i could just get away with a T1.

Im pickled... dont want to spend lots of cash just want a reliable car, 170bhp is great and anything else is a bonus

Cheers John again a.k.a turbo man

the VT1 is basically a GT1749VB which if you didnt know is a turbo from a pd150 golf. Remapped they are good for 195bhp-200bhp, but even on the golfs in standard form they run a fmic.

It it were me i would just stick the kkk out till you have saved enough for a fmic a re-map and a turbo... all three need doing together tbh to get the most out of them.

Yes but that is a lot of cash to spend on a car... I really want the turbo first to be safe as i really couldn't afford for it to POP, as from what i've heard it can do untold damage

I was thinking about the Pikey Arch mod and maybe the removal of the drivers side fog for an air duct

I dont really know what to do mate :thumbdwn:

I can afford the VT1 and the VT2 atm but cant afford a fmic and further map. Obviously in time i can get a fmic and remap

Just go for the VT2 :P

Think of it like a clutch. You're car pushes 350 lb/ft. You have two clutches, one at 400 lb/ft for £500 and one at 600 lb/ft for £550. £50? That's all, for peace of mind. And you know the 600 lb/ft one will be able to cope much better than the one approaching it's limits.

yes i kindov used the same logic when i chose the Helix over the Sachs.

So plan is...

VT2 fitted, run pikey arch mod and no fog drivers side for time being.

FMIC when cash allows.

Then remap

Then big smily face :)

I cant afford to do it all in a 1er but cant afford the turbo to POP either

I need some serious OT :P

And with the VT2 as it comes from allard without being Hybrid from Turbo Dynamics should give me a safe 200/210bhp??

Apologise for all the Q's guys replies are much appreciated however

I ran a safe 220bhp on my VT2 for 2 years roughly. The same turbo is running in SchrickVR6's car now, at around 230hp, and I expect it's doing fine too.

Thanks very much dude, will be placing an order for the VT2 very shortly, so no need to send it away to Turbo dynamics unless i want serious power

or just check out the derv doc's forum on here, he got a stage 2 going cheap cheap, that would be good for what you want

The vt 2 is a hybrid mate, how do you think it runs more power?

The vt2 is just allards equivellent of the stage 1 TD turbo.

It would be unadvised to run the VT2 without being mapped. And you will also need to think about exhausts...... does yours have the miltek?

I dont understand the concept of going for a more expensive turbo that will lagg more when your not after anymore power...... seems daft to me :o

Tbh from what i have heard about Allard turbos your probably better off sticking with the KKK, please dont shoot me down folks, i know jason runs one without problems and schrick does too, but i have heard horror storys of people blowing muiltiples of the allard ones......maybe it was just down to other enthusiastic mappers.

Dont have a Miltek and dont really want one, not my sortov thing. So stick with turbo dynamics then

I run a standard exhaust system with a de-cat i made myself. cos me about 3 quid and does the job

Are there any negative effects of decatting without a remap ?

(my fabia is already mapped)
