Stainless exhaust options.. TDI

Featured Replies

Well ive decided to go down the stainless steel route, im getting a full system from the cat back from longlife exhausts, got a qoute of £240

But a few questions... Will the system make much power difference, i read some where that a stainless system can make the turbo kick in alot quicker due to the gasses being able to escape quicker... any truth in this.

The other thing is, im unsure whether to get a stainless mid box or just have the staright through pipe option, i was told the straight through would give it abit more sound, but once again, any difference in power

Many thanks

tdi's have a straight through centre pipe as standard so in theory if you put a mid box in you could increase the resistance therefore decreasing the performance, your best off just getting a decat and custom backbox if you want more sound

where can i get a decat pipe from trevor??? :S

Just ask Longlife to do it for you ;)

A turbo back straight pipe only cost me £300, but probably because there were no fittings, just a bit of pipe to bend :)

i got my local exhaust place to do it, they took the original downpipe off, took the cat out wielded a pipe in the middle refitted job done,

You might get a faster spool-up from a straight through system on a diesel, but the only way of getting more power is to inject more fuel! Remember that boost pressure doesn't control fuelling, and diesels all run in a lean burn mode at all times (except maybe high throttle low revs with a mechanical pump TD).

Well got the car back around 4.00pm yesterday, i had the full stainless kit done, went for the oval tailpipe, stands out but not ott, not a stupid bucket one :)

Also got a decat made up, fitted that last night, car seems to pull better and is afair bit louder, especially at 3000rpm+

All in all very pleased, :) Will post some pictures later/

Nice one

But also remember you do not need a cat for the MOT

They dont have emmision tests on MOT`s , it is a smoke test

So you should be OK
