This excerpt from VW's ELSA might be quite interesting as well. Shows very well the difference in the engine control systems and the production periods. I updated the information in Wikipedia as well, hopefully without errors (got tired after updating the Bulgarian article before that ).

BTW, rather strange that CDAB is presented as only EU4 compliant. Must be a typo, I suppose. Also, other sources suggest the 1.2 TSI is 8v SOHC, yet here the number of valves per cylinder is 4, so it must be 16v DOHC after all, unless that's a typo too. Nevertheless fixed that in Wikipedia as well; now waiting for the angry reactions. :giggle:

Problem

Ordered a 2012 2.0 S with engine code CFHA. Brochure and dealer have confirmed 280Nm torque (I need this as I tow a caravan) but your list states CFHA is only 250Nm (same as 1.6 greenline II) the CFHF (4x4 models) being actually 280Nm . could the brochure and dealer both be wrong? If this is the case I'll not be a happy man as I specifically requested this information and would otherwise have gone for the Greenline II instead.

If this helps, here's Annie's plate:

First line is max gross car weight, second is max train weight (car+van). I've no idea about engine code but, as you can see from signature, 2.0 ltr CR 140 4x4 DSG. Tows 1300Kg+ like a dream.

It might help us if you put your location in your details.

Certainly the 140 bhp 4x4 copes more than adequately with my caravan.

Yes, sorry guys. Nottingham UK. Thanks for all your help so far. We couldn't quite stretch to the 4x4 ones so it's 1.6 105 ps 250Nm or the 2.0 110 ps 280 Nm (according to dealer and brochure).

If they are wrong, I might as well go for the Greenline as it's £30 road tax and does a potential 64mpg (not towing obviously :giggle:).

Caravan is 800kg (1000kg mgw) but we might be swapping for a four birth soon so we need a bit extra Oomph -hence my need to choose wisely

P. S.

I've also contacted Skoda UK so I'll post their reply on here.

Personally I'd ignore the "nm" figures and just concentrate on the "ps" (or BHP as we oldies prefer).

110 should easily cope with a 'van of 1000kg, but anything over 1200kg I'd be wanting the more powerful 140 bhp. That more than adequately copes with that weight.

This may have come from their Elsawin; I've an 2011 fleebay copy and it quotes 280Nm for the CFHA but I'm convinced that's incorrect as the CFHF can be installed in other models with 2wd, so there would be no point having two engines producing the same figures.

Checked Skoda Auto's own on-line information and it states 2wd 250Nm and 4x4 280Nm for the 110 (81kw) engine.

Would still go with the 2.0 TDI mind, personally I think it's a better motor than the 1.6 and also worth bearing in mind it's effectively a detuned 140.

Cheers guys (and a special thank you to "The Plumber") :hi:

I was always told that torque = "pulling power" so this is more important than shear bhp for towing. I'll wait until the car arrives as I intend to inspect it before they fit towbar. Then I'll only really kick off if there are other issues. Distance selling rules probably apply anyway as it's a used vehicle and I've not had previous opportunity to exam it. :wonder:

And because it is only a detuned CR140, it can be remapped to about 170bhp and around 350-400 nm depending on who you go with. It will also improve your economy providing you don't use all the extra power.

Note of caution though. The CR110 has smaller front brakes and is not quite as easily upgradable as the CR140, which is easy to fit CR170 front brakes to.
