DSG Oil change

Featured Replies

How long has anyone left a DSG oilchange ?? I changed the filter only on my DSG box today after approx. 180,000kms and the oil in the box still looks in tip top condition. My boss was to mean to stump up the cash for a full oil change and after talking to a Skoda technician who, because of the large mileage interval, suggested not changing the oil in case it only "stirred up trouble" and instead just put a new filter on it, I went ahead and had it done today.

I was amazed to see the condition of the oil in the box !!

Food for thought if you have a high mileage DSG out of its warranty. The car now has 320,000kms on it and is still going strong.

Opinions on this welcome.

Who ever said "Not to change the oil in case it stirs up trouble", is talking complete balderdash and total nonsense. I cannot believe that someone who is supposed to be some sort of mechanic could say anything so stupid. Although gearbox oil won't discolour, unlike the engine oil which is being affected by combustion, oil still has a life and it's affected by age and the use it's been subjected to.

Don't believe the person who made this ridiculous statement, VAG aren't recommending that the oil be changed for no good reason.

It was the service manager in one of Irelands main Skoda franchises.

I normally would agree with you, but the car has nearly 200,000kms on the same gear oil and it is driving perfectly. At this stage I am nearly tempted to test it to destruction out of pure curiosity.

No doubt when it fails I will be on here looking for help sourcing a second hand box from a scrappy with my tail well and truly between my legs.

I dont know what the interval is, but the dealer local to where I work 3 days a week mentioned getting the oil changed regularly when I was collecting some parts and got chatting them.

40,000 miles

I was really expecting to have to defend my actions more vigorously !!!

Its total nonsense as others have said, I expect they've had issues with changing the oil or it might take longer than book time for them. New DSG fitted is in the 1k-2k mark so your risk.

when i booked my car in for a 40000ml service the garage didn't do the dsg oil and filter change. the service manager pointed at the computer and said it wasn't in the schedule. i showed him the service book and they completed the work while i waited. got the oil for free as a compensation:)

i wonder how many trusting dsg equipped car owners haven't had their oil changed

I have a 2006 PD140 with DSG and have just done the rounds calling local VW, Skoda and Indy service centres.

My original Skoda service book definately states DSG oil/filter change at 40k or 4 years. Both a Skoda and VW dealer service desk said it should be done, 1 indy said do it, a second indy (staffed by ex VW techs) said dont do it till 40k and Alistair at Unit 18 says do it.

I have booked it to done as I also have a Skoda extended waratentee and that says it should be done as stated in the service book
