Does this thing do anything vital?

It seems to channel water onto the inside of the door carrier, judging by the staining. Not sure that water would still get onto the carrier at this area if the bracket were omitted?

I know water's still going to run off the bottom of the glass onto the lifter mechanism and onto the carrier there, but omitting this bit of plastic, and putting a gutter at the bottom of the lifter mechanism to take water into the 'heart' of the door rather than down the carrier would seem worthwhile?

Any reason this bracket can't be left off and the mounting holes in the carrier sealed?

Ta for any thoughts.

According to some German forum via Google translate:

"The thing scolds himself installation aid and is only there that the assembly at the door lock can be mounted directly to the AGT in one operation. Then the part is as meaningless as a goiter."

Anyone know what a goiter is?

It's in the guide for removing the carrier. All it does is hold the lock unit to the carrier during factory assembly. As long as the holes are taped up after it can be disposed of.
