120LS to 130LR/H Spanish Performance

Featured Replies

This is the story of how looking for 110R Coupe to make a replica of 130RS, ending on 120LS become a 130LR / H for regularity rallies.

About 4 years ago, watching a video of the Rallye Monte Carlo 1977, I found a very nice little cars, the 130RS.

I've always loved cars "rare" and began, after some research regarding a performance could cost 110 to 130RS, to seek a 110R Coupe in Spain.

So I met a friend in the Czech Republic, who is a pilot 130RS Rally and found it cheaper to import from there. The problem is that the law of TüV changed in Spain and it was possible that after importing the car could not use it here.I decided to look for a 110R Spanish but were either expensive or were in very poor condition.

Just then, a friend called me and told me 100km from my house, a man offered a 120LS. "Take the car before I take Thursday or scrapping" said.

Overall, I was left with a car that did not know, ugly, it did not work ..... I am a brave!

The car was an older man who had vision problems, and saw that the temperature was too high, and the head gasket did buffff. 5 liters of coolant inside the engine lasted 15SG. Shot out by the exhaust pipe.

Replace the head gasket and the engine started perfectly. The cylinder head was fine and well the car decided to try to find out if there were more problems.

During two years the car has been waiting to be restored, the family rallies and other classic cars would not let me time.

This summer, after driving 1600km without problems and overcome the TÜV inspection, I decided to start with the restoration and transformation at 130 LR / H.

After completely disassembled, went to the body and paint. There were small spots of rust, but not serious. I decided to paint it matte black and orange. There was some problem with the gloss black paint and left. We had to re-paint it.We remounted the whole car except the interior.

Now change all the wiring of the car. I do not want to have electrical problems on rallies.

Change the battery to the trunk forward, and put a wiring box next, with all fuses and relays. Placed a peugeot 106 diesel alternator of 70Ah to have enough power to auxiliary lights, long distance and fog, as well as all the instruments as Terratrip, SpeedTable ......

The next weekend, we released the car in a rally. I hope everything goes OK. Our only objetive will drive miles and check that all is well. The following weekend we have a another rally and there will have to try to do well in qualifying.

Regards

Hi, this sounds interesting, but the photos don't seem to work.

This does sound really interesting and I really hope that the project goes well. Those original rear engined rally cars were amazing and yours looks like it will be great when it is finished :)

As to the photos, they are a bit tricky to post on here I have found but I have looked at your website.

I do not know why the links do not work, or the photos. It might be a problem with the proxy. However, you can copy and paste the link www.ouvreur.com/skoda.htm or make friends on Facebook of Sergio Ouvreur. There's a lot of pictures.

Why are you using a proxy Sergio? Anyway will add you and your group on facebook. I can understand some Spanish as I know Italian so can read a bit of your website. The car looks great and you should post some vids of it running on Youtube. What modifications have you made to the engine and how much power is it putting out? :)

Matt, the engine todays is de original. I´m working on 136 engine for next year.

Last Saturday, we participated in the "Rally BCR" near Bilbao.

Our objective, just was testing the car for a rally that we have the next weekend.

Tarmac stages were six, four uphill and two downhill, twisty complicated and quite steep.

Throughout the rally were the top ranked, the car worked very well and suddenly I understood how everything worked. Always fighting between Audi Quattro, Ford Taunus o Datsun 240z

In the last mile of the last stage, the car began to fail. The ignition coil was very hot. We finished the stage and put an ice pack on the coil at a gas station. We decided to leave and return to Rally HQ on the crane.

We are very pleased, everything was great, except that little problem at the end. Tomorrow. I´ll install 2 coils, one of them for this kind of "emergencies"

Next weekend, full attack

That car looks brilliant Sergio. You should make a youtube channel and post some film of the car there. I remember these rear engined Skodas rallying as a kid and they were really effective little cars. I have not seen one on a rally stage for years though even though I go often as my brother in law rallies a 1973 Ford Escort Mark one. It is nice to see one back on the stage again. Thanks for the facebook add btw and love the pics on there. Hope you stay around this site. It is pretty friendly and all Skoda owners welcome. Glad Dave could help you with the wheel rim covers.

Tell us how next week goes :)

I´d like you enjoy it!

Matt , no problem! I talk you in English :p

Last weekend, second round!

Rallye Villa de Comillas.

We began bad, when we´re going to the rallye, the battery died!

We arrived on Comillas and a Car Garage was opened, and I buyed ones.

The mechanic said me, while I was installing the battery, "you have a oil drop". A big drop in oil cooler.

I take off the cooler, and join wiyh de hose the In & Out of the engine.

On Rallye Start, we are thinking on bad weather conditions, was our first test on wet tarmac. The skoda was working really good on first stage. We are the leaders.

On second stage, about one mille ago, a herd of horses blocked the road and many cars we were blocked. According to regulate only if 50% of the participants are harmed, it overrides the stage. No more chances to make a good ranking. Finished in 16th

Now, I have 5 months for finish a good engine fron 136, with some powered accesories.

In 15 days will be working in our owned Rally, you can see on www.ouvreur.com , the last rallye in Spain for 2012. Maybe, on 2013, we could be making a Skoda Race with British Skodas RWD, Plymouth is no far, only 40km and 20hours on Britanny Ferries jejejjeje

Thanks and yes your car looks great. It is really impressive that you can rally a car with the standard engine with all of 50 bhp and compete in a rally like that. I know just how well these little cars handle though (provided you don't lift off the throttle in a corner). My friend had a 105 Lux as a first car when we were both 18.On the country lanes this little car with all of 40 bhp could frustrate many people in much more powerful cars :)

As I say once you get that engine sorted with more power it will be quite a car. Also hope you got those wheel trim from Dave ok :)

I have not heard of Dave for days. He told me he had some for me, but still do not know when I will send them. I have no hurry, no long stand by until the next rally.

In regularity rallies should not have too much power, but certainly the original engine is a bit poor. It forces you to be always full but so is more fun

Hi Ouvreur give him a chase as he is a good guy and if he says he has them then I am sure he will deal with it for you. He is high up in the UK Skoda Owners Club and knows all there is to know about rear engined Skodas.

I understand about the power aspect. You have to concentrate hard on your driving to compensate for the lack of power :)

:hi: I always get there in the end! Bit like my cars! :giggle:

Hi friends

because surgery took the last month on standby. I've been thinking about the improvements to the car for the 2013 championship.

I bought a motor "136M" Skoda Felicia a 1.3mpi to transform a carbureted engine. Some parts need to be changed but it is a good engine with 34000km.

I'll use a carburetor SOLEX 32-36, 40 weber not want to use because it is not necessary for regularity rallies.

It wasted too much gasoline.

I am also working on the design of a gearbox with relationships that interest us. At 5000rpm, I need to first gear longer (up to 40kmh) and the third speed to 90kmh.

Approx The gearbox at 5000rpm in first gear will be 40km, 62kmh second gear, third gear 90kmh .... and the difference between gears is much smaller.

Soon photos
