Accessories - Price Mark UP!

Featured Replies

I know VW charge a premium but the difference in accessory prices are a joke!

Examples:

(All prices are + painting and fitting!)

3 door "kick plate film"

Seat Mii - £34

VW Up - £60

(I'd like to add the that Seat items also have a "Mii" logo whereas the VW items are blank!)

Rear bumper film protector

Seat Mii - £18

VW Up - £62

Rear Park Sensors

Skoda Citigo - £175

VW Up - £300

Basic Floor Mats

Skoda Citigo -£30

VW Up - £35

Stainless Steel "Kick Plates"

Skoda Citigo - £79

VW Up - £115

Rear Chrome Strip

Skoda Citigo - £35

VW Up -£60

Front mudflaps

Skoda Citigo -£25

VW Up -£55

Body decals

Skoda "Stripe" Decal kit - £180

VW Up - "Motorway" Decal kit - £225

(Significantly more decals in the Skoda kit too!)

And to top it all off...

Side skirts

Skoda Citigo - £240 PAINTED AND FITTED!

VW Up - £242 SUPPLY ONLY!!!!

This is just a few quick comparisons, but more proof (if needed) why the Citigo and its little Spanish Cousin are a better choice than the Up!

Also it's worth noting that the above parts are "like for like" with the exception of:

- Rear bumper film protector

- Rear Parking sensors

- Rear Chrome strip

- Sideskirts

All of these items are IDENTICAL and share the same part numbers with the exception of a Skoda, VW or Seat prefix!

haha, rumbled!

Clearly if you are happy to pay more for the same car, made in the same factory, due to the VW badge VAG are happy to charge you more for the bits too. :D

Makes sense to me.

I wonder how much an actual VW badge costs compared to a Skoda one? ;)

5-10% in my estimation across the similar cars in the ranges.

I knew we bought the Skoda for a reason

Agree, but the VW will always be worth more when selling or trading in.......so you pays your money and takes your choice. BTW I wanted the CityGo ASG to keep it a 2 Skoda car family, but got over ruled by Mrs P...what can I say!

Actually I read that the Skoda has the best residuals of the 3!

Actually I read that the Skoda has the best residuals of the 3!

Not sure about that as residuals are not firmed up until around the 12 month time, and both are not that old yet. Anyway, I love them both and IMO the CityGo has the better exterior appearance. Just found this from Auto Express

Skoda Citigo 1.0 MPI 75 GreenTech SEAT Mii SE 1.0 MPI 60 Volkswagen High up! On the road price/total as tested £9,860/£10,915 £9,275/£10,080 £10,515/£12,930 Residual value (after 3yrs/36,000) £4,329/43.9% £4,375/47.2% £5,352/50.9%

Ironically I think I read my initial statement in an Auto express review!

Those figures suggest that Skoda is bottom of the 3? I somehow don't think that will be the case in reality considering Skoda has overtaken Seat in Market interest. I guess we will see this summer when the figures are published properly.

As for the "pay your money..." thought process:

considering extras rarely add value to the resell price of a car, those purchasing Up! Accessories are basically losing much more money than those buying the equivalent Skoda accessories. Therefore is a highly spec'd Up (or heavily accessorised one) really "holding its money" if you had to pay significantly more for the EXACT same Skoda parts in the first place?

We would have purchased an Up! too but decided on the Citigo due to the Up! looking a little too cute and feminine. Still a great little car though.

Can't argue with the point about the accessories.

I have been quoted £24.70 inc vat (supply only) for the VW rear bumper protector (1S0 061 197) by the Skoda dealer supplying my Citigo.

  • 2 weeks later...

Currently on ebay there is a set of front and rear mudflaps for £59.99 delivered to your door. Which doesn't sound too badly priced (vw up ones).

Also from the same seller the up spoiler is £124.99 delivered where as the citigo spoiler is around the £160-180 mark.

I'm guessing both will fit.

Lastly for anyone that has a 3dr there is the sticker set for £80, shame as the 5 dr is £180.

IMO the CityGo has the better exterior appearance.

Agree on that one, only good thing what's sexy on 3drs. UP! is the angled rear side windows.

Fitting time is approx 100 which I've been told is £100.

Ahhh right thanks! I take it you mean 100 minutes? I suppose it would be easier paying the £180 for the dealership am getting it fitted as I think the £180 includes fitting..

You may be better off buying the decals and getting a quote from a Local Vinyl wrapping/graphics company.

I have similar decals for my Seat Mii. I'm having them removed and replaced (car is being machine polished due to bad dealer prep). I'm getting charged £35 for application

Might want to check that as my dealer said £180 is not including fitting which is at rate 100, which is about £100. £280 for stickers is expensive.

The above idea is also worth a go, thinking of having my own knocked up in a design of my choice.

Thanks for your answers guys, think I'm gonna do what bazves said an look for a vinyl company. Because if it £280 for a set of decals then that is truly one big rip off!!

£180 is definitely parts only...

...as my opening post states! ;)

  • 3 months later...

I am right in thinking the mii spoiler will fit the citigo, at that there is no difference between the 3 and 5 door when it comes to fitting.

I think there is a member on here with a white citigo who fitted the mii spoiler fitted.

Both 3 and 5dr models share the same rear end

VW UP, Citigo and Mii accessories are more or less the same. All the vehicles share the same shell, they just have different bumpers and light.

Wheels, sill guards, dash accessories and spoilers all fit ok. Oh and for another piece of information if its a universal part i.e. Spoiler get the price for all 3 as sometimes 1 manufacture is cheaper
