Towing Eye Help

Featured Replies

I was stuck in the snow a few weeks back now in my fabia vrs and had to be towed out by a 4x4, got about 5 metres and all of a sudden a massive bang, first though was that it had ripped the tow bar from the 4 x 4 but no it has sheared the towing eye bolt completely in half leaving the thread still inside,

any idea's on how i can sort it?

cheers in advance

try drilling up the centre of it,and tap it out. . put a bolt into the new threads and use that to screw it out. . .with the towing eye being reverse thread you'll just be able to use a standard tap.

has is snapped off flush or is there some poking out? if so cant you get a grips on it or grind to flats and get a spanner. if not above will be the best way.

weld a smaller diameter bolt to it and then just screw it out ?

With it being a reverse thread, you can't really go wrong drill a hole in the centre. If it moves, it's coming out.

I know this is an old thread, but i'd be interested to know if the OP found an easy way to fix this?

I'm in the same situation..... In my case there is a bit of thread sticking out a couple of mm, and it might be possible to get a pair of mole grips on it and get it out. But I cant see any way around having to take the bumper off to get access to it.
