SAI removal

Featured Replies

Hi chaps,

Thinking of an sai removal but will this effect my emissions? And also does this need to be done to fit a cold air intake as I don't believe there's anywhere to attach the return pipe which would connect to the old air box.

Feel free to put me straight :/

Thanks

The sai is there to help warm the cat up quicker so it gets to operating temp faster,

I removed mine not as there was anything wrong with it i was just sick of the jolt the engine gave when it switched off,

You will need a blanking plate to bolt to the block where the exhaust valve thingy is, where the sai runs to on side of engine and a three resistors to go in place of the sai, n249 and n112 valves as you might aswell get rid of them while your at it,

Only thing is you might get engine light on even with resistors in but i believe its abit hit and miss, some don't some do, I did but i have sai system mapped out when i had car remapped along with valves and second lambda probe as i intended to run a decat but ended up with a sports cat in end,

I believe rob or bowders has a link somewhere on here on how to do it all and a picture walk through

Thanks some really good advice, but will removing it increase emissions? Thats the bit I don't understand? Or has it got nothing to do with emissions?

Another question, what sort of prices are stage 2 maps? Looks into it for a diesel before but I imagine these engines being mapped with wiping out the sai is a bit more pricey.

Thanks

Sorry looked into.. Obviously have a 1.8t vrs now petrol.

The SAI pump runs for 90 seconds on cold start to pump more air through the CAT and decrease emissions just for that 90 seconds. It's pretty pointless IMHO.

There are loads of mappers out there but a lot just install a generic map. To get it customised you need to g to a real tuner :) I can recommend Shark in Manchester or one of their agents (W8 Performance, CNTuning) if they are closer to you.

My Shark stage 2 map has SAI removed, second lambda removed for decat and a couple of other tweaks. Shark have a small addition charge for tweaks like that.

Oh I see, thanks for the explanation.

I'm on the Isle of Wight so down south is best, will be a while before the a map is considered but TIP, SAI removal, CAI and FMIC soon enough. Then the exhaust if I can find a good second hand piece of kit. Wouldn't be able to justify £300 under the car to the misses lol.

Hi guys, if i do this mod and get a light on due to sai being missing, will this affect performance ( limp mode) as i dont have vagcom but am tempted to get rid of sai as its noisy

Any of the above tuners/garages that would do all this for you? (I am not confident enough to do it myself)

No buddy will not alter performance.......Cell light can sometimes be fixed with resistor, but not always.

Most cases due to getting rid of either faulty parts or leaking parts it tends to improve smoothness.
