Superb 55 Not starting cuts out!

Featured Replies

My 55 plate 2.4 v6 either wont start just turns over or when it did start ran then cut out.

No warning lights nothing coming up on diagnostics, no noise, no smoke me thinks its electrical any ideas ???????????????

My motor has been faultless since I bought it in 2006 and now done 92 thousand miles.

Maybe if you use a larger font people will respond faster.. :-)

I'M GUESSING - IMOBILIZER ISSUE. IF IT DOES RUN FOR 30 SECONDS AND THEN CUTS OUT MOST LIEKLY.

I had a Passat once that would start briefly then stop, until it would eventually get going and keep going.

Turned out it was the key chip sensing coil which fits round the ignition switch that was at fault with the contacts giving up the ghost.

Apparently, the car is designed to start and run briefly to show that there's nothing wrong with the ignition, but if it can't sense the coded key then the immobiliser stops the engine shortly afterwards.

If it were an immo problem it would start normally, run for 3 seconds and then stop. The immo light (car with a key under it) would be lit.

When you try and start the car, is the tach showing the RPM?

When it cuts out, is the dash completely dark (no warning lights at all)?
