  1. After hitting a pothole last week that damaged the rim of the wheel, I would like to have the tracking alignment checked. My Octavia has Lane Assist, which complicates matters. My nearest dealer is unable to do it, as is my tyre provider of choice. Just wondered if anybody was aware of any Volkswagen Group dealers who able to carry this out in the Midlands region? Thanks Ted
  2. Due to incompetence by windscreen replacement company and lack of knowledge at the stealer. Does anybody know how to remove the shroud which covers the rain sensor and lane assist sensor? It appears to be connected to the lane assist sensor, or is that just bad fitting by the windscreen replacement firm. Thanks in advance for any advice. Ted
  3. My navigation announcement has developed a stutter while making announcements. It stops half way through an announcement and then starts again a second or so later. Does or has anyone have/had a similar occurance? It's an Amundsen Thanks Theloudbloke.
  4. FYI - Using the cruise control before the engine is fully run in is not recommended, as it could lead to glazed bores due to the constant engine speed. Even on the motorway the minor variations in engine speed under manual control are a benefit to the engines running in process. Ted
  5. With the turbo engines it is important when running in to get a high enough boost pressure, in order to 'squash' the oil control ring. As the engine is warming up, say between 2/3 and 3/4 of normal operating temperature, you should accelerate smoothy above 3500 rpm in order to bring the turbo to full boost and compress the oil control ring. VAG did have a problem a few years ago with the 2l TSI engines burning excessive oil, a friend of mine had one burning 1l of oil every 1200-1500km. He eventually got a new engine. Ted
  6. Would like to see a piccie too. Does anyone know if it's possible to source a Westfalia tow bar for the Skoda and where? Thanks.
  7. I got a slightly used 2.0 TDI DSG Elegance, on account that there were no vRS TDI available at the time, Sept/Oct time. Did pick one that was well speced, xenons, leather, electric seats, lane assist, park assist, auto lights and wipers. I'm more than pleased, I've had 5.8l/100km on a motorway run when I didn't go too far over the limit, so economy can be had if you're careful with the right foot. Having just spent 8 years driving on the Autobahn, the top end performance is ok and reasonably quick in Sport mode and realistically if your not on the Autobahn are you going to use that top end performance. I would advise runnning-in in Sport mode, with a diesel as it will help give full boost on acceleration. All in all, I think I made the right choice.
  8. It's not so much tyre width but tyre compound and as already stated suspension geometry/setup that is more critical. I'm sure my Octavia will handle equally as well on 205's on 16 inch wheels as it does on the optional 225's on 18 inch wheels. I've no doubt the 16 inch wheels will be more comfortable and not as harsh. Regards Ted
  9. Hi all New to the group, so hello to all. Taking delivery of an Octavia Elegance fitted with the Golus wheels, which I believe are 7.5J x 18 with 225/40 x 18 92Y XL tyres. Can somebody confirm size and more importantly offset. I'm wanting to fit winter tyres, I believe my options are:- a. Stick with 225/40 x 18 tyres, 92V XL and find suitable wheels? Possibly 8J x 18 BBS, with increased offset of 6mm? b. Go to 225/45 x 17 tyres on 7.5J x 17, with same offset? c. Go to 205/?? x 17 tyres on ?? X 17 wheels, have to calculate the offset. Thanks in advance of any help and advice. Ted
