  1. Thanks for the prompt responses folks...! W11A.
  2. Continuing my search for information regarding downsizing, I've found the advice & comments here on line most valuable. As I slowly decide on which wheel, one query remains....HOW do I identify a 7J WHEEL..? Will a 7J x 17ET 45 wheel have the dimensions stamped into the wheel...? Thanks, W11A.
  3. Surrey John - Greetings, I'd like to congratulate you on your post, 18/12/22. I've only just found it !! Extremely useful to anyone wishing to discover exactly which wheel / tyre sizes are suitable for their Skoda. Readers maybe interested to learn that the Skoda showroom (Salisbury) at Old Sarum were most unhelpful; the supporting duo behind the parts counter tried to tell me that Skoda UK maintained that one should never change the size of the wheels fitted as new & original?....as such, no information was forthcoming from Skoda UK. My response, as I made for the exit, was to remind them of the 2nd set of (usually smaller) winter wheels & tyres hanging on every German (etc) car owner's garage wall.... TDM. 4. Carlton, thank you for your valued advice, which I'm still applying much thought to ! 225/50R18 you mention, which throws me askew slightly....not sure why, probably because I'm sure that 225/45ZR19 is the standard (but unpopular) tyre that comes with the 4x4 TDI Edition...?7 It's years since I've sold/traded used car parts, I guess I'd be best off phoning Dealership partspeople and of course asking amongst these pages......? So folks, if you are interested in assisting,,
  5. I'd like to know if it is viable to replace my Karoq 2.0 TDI 150 AWD Edition wheels with wheels from the Kodiak that have 235/55ZR/18 tyres....? Ideally finding someone along the way who'd appreciate my 19"wheels fitted with 225/45ZR/19 ...? I'm not even sure if these 18" wheels are suitable for a 4x4...? 6. Whilst serving with England's senior infantry regiment in West Berlin, in the early 70's we found neat vodka worked well as a screenwash; the only complaint was the tiny capacity of the screenwash reservoir. I had to drive my BMC mini, with wind down/up windows from downtown Berlin to our camp in Kladow and never had a problem with the windscreen in the cold. Incidently, the dealers in the U.K were a little suspicious of the car, apparently export models were the first to have windups, the home market still had sliding windows. Mine was RHD for export, purchased in Berlin. I recall a week or so when the daytime temperature hovered around -20c, and dropped at night.. I've been back twice since, and I'm pretty sure that this doesn't occur quite so much. W11A
  7. Like many I'm cursed with 19" wheels on my 2L AWD Edition Karoq... The vehicle was too good to turn my back on when it became time to say goodbye to my 4th Octavia Scout, and trade... I've never been interested in low profiles & more of a All Season Tyre driver; today's discussion at my local tyre shop leads me to consider moving from my 225x45x19 tyres to Vfalken 225x55x19 in a bid to increase comfort & decrease shock from potholes etc. Falken FK FK520 or AS210s, both being All Season, neither being cheap...! Has anyone experience of going this route, to achieve comfort & all season performance....? An alternative of course , would be to re-equip with smaller wheels and tyres...££££££. Thanks, in anticipation of your constructive comments... WW 11A
  8. 225/45/19 Tyre pressure ? New to my Karoq 2.0I TDI 4x4 I remain confused regarding the most suitable tyres pressure... The Extra Load tyres state that the max t.p. is 50 lbs/inch...which doesn't help at all, the fuel cap card states 2.4/ 35 lbs/inch... Do drivers of the 2.0l TDI 4x4 have a preferred setting for this Sumitomo tyre..? F.A.O AG Falco S.R.I also produce Goodyear & Dunlop tyres for some markets in addition to Dunlop - Slazenger sports goods, quite a resourceful company...certainly one of the 'Big Boys'
  9. I'm interested to learn which tyres 'Gomezz' & 'J.R.' are writing about... ? Or any other tyres that 4x4 Caroq drivers have found favourable for use throughout the season. It's noticeable from watching many other road users, to see just how inefficient many drivers are with scant regard for their tyres, fuel consumption or even their vehicles... Perhaps if some of today's drivers had 'bangers' as first vehicles and had to maintain these themselves we would have more appreciative road users...? Thankfully, most driver's first vehicle is fairly modern, AND SAFE, but somehow something seems to get lost...? W11A Salisbury Plain Recreation Area.
  10. My recently traded 2L AWD TDI Karoq came to us 4yrs old and only 16k miles....the salesman boasted that it even came on new tyres..... Why ? That caused a minor concern, 225/45/19 wheels wouldn't have been my choice, nor the Sumitomo summer tyres. I'd traded a very reliable Octavia Scout 184bhp that I'd had Falken all weather rubber fitted to, which I found to be exemplary in all weather including snow...remembering of course this was not an ' off roader' (Countless thousands of miles in Landrovers, usually open to the elements, snow - sand - mud had taught me that the vehicle must be combined with driver expertise to make progress)...Early days/nights digging/towing soon sorted the men from the boys, AND could be expensive...(Usual fee came in the form of Alcohol...) The last time that I was towed clear was in the Kalahari in Namibia 3 years ago, showing off my driving skills to my wife.. (I probably could have lowered all tyre pressures for greater traction, but whilst I had 2 spare wheels - I'd forgotten a foot pump..!) The cunning, but sly local who towed me free probably felt he was taking 'Whitey' to the cleaners by charging the equivalent of $5. So, my question, are any 2L TDI AWD owners satisfied with their tyres? W11A Salisbury Plain Recreation Area.
  11. Westie 38 & KennyR thank you.... I can't understand how things can change......I've owned a top of the range Superb 4x4, two OCTAVIA TDI 4x4 Scouts and my wife has had a Fabia vRS, a Monti Carlo and one other.... All purchased new or as a demonstrator, and I'm amazed just how simple operations change from series to series... I guess this is progress ! Once again - Thank you guys! All I need to do now is locate someone who can switch my rear DRLs on, to match the front DRLs, and establish if I have twin rear fog lamps.....and, if yes, initiate the left lamp.. 12. My external mirrors fail to dip when selecting reverse....Any thoughts on how to overcome this problem...The box has been ticked, and "Simultaneous' has been ticked & un-ticked to no avail . Regards, W11A
  13. Wishing to have the following three items initiated I was told by my non- franchised VAG specialist garage 'Tech' that he couldn't interpret the Deutsch/ Czech wording on the VCDS screen... First time this has happened... 1.Activate 2nd rear fog lamp 2. " Rear DRLs 3. " Soft slow dimming of interior lighting How do people get around this problem...? W11A Salisbury Plain Recreation area

I brought this to attention of Briskoda readers some 6 or 7 years ago...the anti fuel theft system is designed to prevent tubes being inserted to syphon your fuel... Sadly this also prevents most funnels from entering the fuel filler neck..! Fuel station pumps are now of a similar shape... I sourced the Ford funnel from a dealership for a couple of quid, and it works well. When I took it to SKODA Salisbury they just shrugged and as usual, cared 'Diddly Squat' Personally, I think people should invest in one... Just insert the device, then the funnel, then lift your fuel can and pour. I've been unable to establish when the anti theft system came into being... W11A SALISBURY PLAIN RECREATION AREA.
  15. Hi, I've traded my Octavia Scout (184) for a rather nice Karoq, it appears to be a 1st class trade....but as always there's something more that I'd like! I'm led to believe that this 2018 vehicle can have its rear DRLs activated to match those at the front, with absolutely no knock on penalty...? As with my earlier Scouts, Superbs and Fabias I'm also led to understand that the rear left fog lamp can also be activated to display a matching pair...? My last 'mods' were activated by ' black_sheep' around 7-8 years ago... where I realised that we'd shared an employer... I think he's gone over to a really special SEAT now... So, can anyone confirm my mods are possible.. ? And can I bribe anyone to execute them..? Regards, W11A (Salisbury Plain Recreation Area)
