  1. In regards to the comments above about the bulb holders. There is another option, if you're like me, and you don't want to chop up the originals. The rubber grommet that holds the 4 wires in place to go through the rubber light cover. If you snip from the edge of the grommet to the hole that one of the wires to the BULB passes through, and then straight across to the other bulb wire from that hole, you can free the wires, and insert the bulb holder over the connectors which in the end wire up to the ballast. They do fit through but it's a tight fit. Make sure you have the holder the right way round. Like I said, I just found that a better option than to chop the holders up.
  2. Hmmmm. Anything suitable for a derv induction wise? I really want to have a subtle sportiness to mine.
  3. Very nice looking Yeah, a lot of 2014 Montes are rolling out with Gigaros. Probably just to use them up? I'm sure if you want to swap them for Trinitys, someone would be willing to partake. (I know I would consider it!)
  4. Defo the bulbs but I think even the ballasts are type rated... 35 or 55 respectively. Have another run in the dark when it isn't foggy? (Asking a lot for Aberdeen )
  5. From those charts it really seems a hard choice between 5000k and 6000k. Hmmmm. It'll be good to see the real outcome of your 6000k kit in comparison I reckon there'll hardly be much difference!
  6. Awesome, have you got a graph of that bud out of interest? Sure I didn't see one on the build thread unless i'm mistaken :wonder: I keep meaning to come to the East Mids meet and check it out but just checked and i'm rota'd in for this Tuesday. At some point i'll make it!
  7. I want some Monte mudflaps! Not sure if there is such thing.
  8. I'd never pay that for one side skirt. Depends how keen the breaker is to sell it as a whole set, I suppose.
  9. Brand new the skirts are priced at stupid money. You're best off waiting for one to be broken with an intact nearside (left) skirt. On the bright side, all Monte skirts are the same colour. So not slim pickings in that area.
  10. I didn't find any wiring in the way Bolted straight on and they really are surprisingly sturdy.
  11. When I turn mine on, there's a split second of bright light, then it dies down and the bulbs warm up properly. Yeah with yours being a vRS it would have been a fair bit easier
  12. I can back Brimmas figures up even with my standard 105, whilst my mpg does drop to around 45-50 around town, I know my driving style is a bit lead-footed at times and tbh I accept that. However the other day I did a round trip to somewhere just north of Stoke after brimming the tank - a small blast of about 80 til I hit uttoxeter, careful driving from then on to my destination, then the return was again quite heavy footed. Averaged 57MPG. About 94 miles too, weirdly enough. I also found out that i tend to be more economical after long runs- both directions after getting off the dual carriageway I was using the turbo band and then shifting up straight away. Edit- Brimma, what's the engine like at 130bhp? I've seen quite a few offers recently for 130 and a couple for 140 and was wondering how it changes this car.
  13. Nah, as well as the car not usually being driven by me, it doesn't get much night work. With my dad away a lot, it often only gets used for mum popping to work. So doesn't warrant the upgrade. If my dad asks me to when he gets back off holiday I'll happily install them. Thanks, I think they really add to the car! Makes it look a lot better and also for the matching plates... We do get a couple of looks down the driveway when people walk past with their dogs and when were in convoy
  14. These are the pictures you REALLY want to see! Can you tell which one is the Monte? And my personal favourite... I do have a couple of snaps of dipped & main beam I took on my iPhone whilst driving down a quiet country lane, but they're quite blurry And also... I HIGHLY recommend this upgrade. I give the following reasons: The colour is absolutely ice white, maybe with a hint of blue. From the drivers seat, I feel so much safer. From the drivers seat, I feel so much more confident driving at night now. From the drivers seat, I can see further. Dipped beam was astounding through town as now I can actually see the things about to pass by my car low down, which adds to the confidence/safety feel. Signs are lit up further away and made more clear. The warm up time, whilst noticeable, is rather "cool". I say cool in the the sense that it is a bit like the iDevice boxes and their "7 second reveal". Looks amazing from the outside of the car too.
  15. I'll also spin the cars round tonight and get some comparisons against the garage doors in the dark
  16. Before and afters. If you want any more pics matty, I have a few of where the ballasts are attached but there's not much else to really see! anything specific let me know and i'll grab a shot Before: And after: Side by side with the standards in the vRS
  17. Drivers side bulb in!!!!!!!! :D :D Now to attach ballasts and fix everything back together phew! Anyone with diesel: The filter IS in your way, but I with rather large hands managed it by removing the bulb and its wires from the grommet first, and putting the bulb in with just two wires coming from it. Takes a while but it goes in. Phew!
  18. Got the passenger side in now, done it the other way round so the bulbs in and the ballast is balancing on the air filter. Gonna see if I can get driver side in before fastening them in.... Should be interesting. I cut through the grommet, pulled the wires out and done it that way.
  19. Yarp, but that would mean either removing the connectors on one side or the wiring from the xenon bulb on the other. To actually get the wire through and out free from the grommet As I said above I might just snip the gromment and grab the wires out... It should still do its job, right? If not, duct tape.
  20. Unless I cut snips in the grommet, to get the wires out and then put the bulb holder on that way. As long as I don't cut between two holes the gromment should stay in one piece and be held together by the piece inbetween the holes. It seems quite strong rubber....
  21. I kept thinking that, but the grommet is already on with the wires running through. To do that would mean ripping off the plugs, pulling them through the grommet, putting the original holder on then rewiring the plugs back on. But I don't really think that's the best way to go... depends how easy it would be.
  22. It's not the ballast that is the problem, like I said they were both sides secure on the slam panel already at this stage. It's the bulb. For some reason I just can't get these new holders to twist in to the projector socket. It's just warped the one that I tried - whenever it feels like "oh maybe it's in now" it just falls back out again! Earlier comment on finding a decent halogen revoked. I know this is what I want just can't get it done
  23. Hey, one of us works there for a living you know! It's fine, I have 20% discount, so it's almost as low as retail prices. Edit: In other news, i'm giving up for today! That filter needs moving and I haven't got the tools and refuse to buy a socket for it before my tools get back next week. Also, both the places jonro has used are actually taken up in the diesel. Starting to think maybe some bright Philips would be good. Any suggestions on the best brightest bet apart from HID?
