  4. I went along to Medway Hedgehog Rescue centre today to pick up three hedgehogs. One was the second hoglet that I found in my garden and two brothers. All are now over the "release weight" of 450 grams and they are the first of this year's intake to be released. MHR now has about 24 hoglets in residence all being looked after, well fed and fattened up ready to be micro-chipped and released into people's gardens. Here's my three jostling for sleeping positions in their new house. The bedding is a mix of ripped newspaper and straw from their old house to give them a familiar scent in their new home. I have taken advice and created a temporary pen for them around their new home so that they don't wander off too far. I'll take it down on Monday and then they will be free to roam. Just need to keep putting food out every night and hope that they decide to stay around.
  5. This is what you need to press to return to the digital speed display without interrupting the navigation ...
  6. Hedgehog update. I went along to Medway Hedgehog Rescue centre to drop off some puppy milk powder which they use to hand-rear the really small hoglets. They now have about 16 orphan hoglets in and apparently my three are doing really well and I should be getting two back soon to be released into the hog house that I've set up in the bushes at the edge of my garden. I converted a cat shelter that I built about 5 years ago by adding a tunnel which should keep nosy predators out while the hogs sleep during the day.

  8. First meeting after summer break, count me in.
  9. I have retro fitted a full size spare wheel to my 1.5TSI SEL but it still leaves the floor about 2 inches below the edge of the boot. I bought the wheel from ebay, put a full sized tyre on it and bought the polystyrene blocks that go either side of the wheel from my Dealer (approx £40 each side). I already had the tool kit from the space saver spare wheel that I ordered with the car. I unfastened the boot floor from its fixings under the back seats and just laid it on top.
  10. I wouldn't use the Sat Nav as the turn-by-turn directions meant that I couldn't display the digital speedo. After hours trawling through the manual I found that you can override the turn-by-turn display by pressing the area to the right of the scroll wheel. The top icon to the left of the scroll wheel allows you to toggle between cruise control and speed limiter assuming the switch on the left hand stalk is turned on.
  11. He's (they've named him Alex) looking a lot better already. (taken from the Medway Hedgehog Rescue facebook page)
  12. The lady at the rescue centre thinks that the nest must have been infested by ticks as they are all suffering to some extent but they can and will be treated. The first one that I took to the rescue centre (Amber) has an appointment with the vet this afternoon to see whether her stability issues are a result of an inner ear infection or whether she has some form of head trauma. Let's hope it's the former and can be treated. 😟 Meanwhile cleaned the box out, washed the bedding cloths and we'll see what tonight brings.
  13. Well they may be endangered but they're certainly not scarce in my garden. Hoglet #4 (the first one died) turned up last night. Waiting for a call from the rescue centre to take it along to be reunited with it's sisters. It has got a few ticks on it's forehead but appears quite healthy otherwise ...
  14. And then there were two. Put some food out for the big (about 12in) hedgehog last night, checked about 11pm to find another small hoglet (I'm learning all the correct terms now) had just about finished off the whole lot. I was at a bit of loss knowing what I should do but after a couple of minutes I noticed it had fallen asleep in the saucer of food. Obviously not normal behaviour so scooped it up and brought it indoors for the night. Called Medway Hedgehog Rescue this morning and arranged to take it along. The first one they've named Amber and I see from their Facebook page that this new one is also female and they've called it Alice. Now I'm going to try to build a hedgehog house so that they have somewhere to be returned to once they've put on a bit of weight. It's a good job places like Medway Hedgehog Rescue exist or I don't know what I would have done.
  15. Sadly found his body in the garden this morning but a little later found another similar size snuffling around at the bottom of the garden. Assuming something had happened to their mum I scooped it up and put it into a big box and gave it some water. Found a hedgehog rescue centre in nearby Strood so gave them a call and took it along. They said it was only about 3 weeks old and severely dehydrated and would normally still be in the nest. Left it with them to look after and came home to look for any other orphans that may still be out there. Nothing so far but at least one will have a chance of surviving.
  16. This little fella turned up n my garden just after 18:00 and decided to stay around for a spot of dinner before going back home.

  19. They're pretty good, not really dark enough to appreciate the cone pattern change with speed, too much traffic/ambient light, but love the way the thing drives. The speed limiter really is a licence saver as it is all too easy to creep up to silly speeds on dual carriageways.
  20. For an aftermarket full size spare wheel installation in a 2wd Karoq you will need to order polystyrene inserts part nos S575863496G for the drivers side (which holds all the tools/locking wheel nut/towing eye/etc.) and S575863495E for the passengers side. There is also the side-to-side back piece which I didn't order as I have varioflex seats. The centre spindle needs to be elongated to support the floor in the middle of the wheel and to do a factory finish job you may need a new boot floor carpet as it sits at a different height and needs a slightly different shape to the back edge. All the parts (with the possible exception of the centre spindle) are standard 4wd Karoq spare wheel kit parts. Here is my full size 18inch Braga in my 2wd SEL with just the left/right inserts. Centre spindle extended using left over sink waste water pipe. Her is the original floor carpet just laying on top of the spare wheel.
  21. Just for my piece of mind really but, as you say, I've already bitten the bullet and ordered the polystyrene surrounds so not unless you have nothing else to do. Comparing the pictures of your installation with the link that you posted I'm fairly sure that my suspicions are correct which is why no-one can find them in the parts catalogues because they are using 4wd listed parts on 2wd cars.
  22. I'm hoping that Skoda won't have gone to the trouble of creating separate polystyrene surrounds for the 4wd and 2wd versions and so have ordered the left and right hand side pieces that are specified as 4wd only and hopefully they will sit on the boot floor with the wheel well on the 2wd providing the extra depth for a full size spare. I'll let you know how I get on.
  23. Apprentice, If you get time, is there any chance that you could look around the polystyrene blocks to the left/right of the wheel to find any part numbers. Dealers are struggling to find the parts required on their ordering system I am trying to upgrade my SEL to full size spare, I have already bought a wheel and tyre but need the blocks to support the boot floor a the correct height. TIA, Neil.
