  1. Hi Colin. Not to any "cases", but these are links to what made me ask the question: Negative Amazon review claiming "German cars" are negatively affected: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-reviews/R350KKLZ990O8Y/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B0D1R5SR4V Law suit having been closed with prejudice: https://www.classlawgroup.com/rain-x-sensor-lights-investigation Various forum posts about the issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/Golf_R/comments/zeax0p/how_many_here_have_fouled_their_windshield_washer/ https://www.passatworld.com/threads/rainx-windshield-wash-fluid-and-fluid-level-sensor.449938/ https://forums.tdiclub.com/index.php?threads/bad-washer-fluid-sensor-new-rain-x-formula-not-compatible-with-vw-level-sensor.407661/ https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/washer-fluid-level-sensor-malfunction-from-rain-x-and-other-washer-fluids.1472974/
  2. Is that because you want monitoring when parked (ignition off), or for another reason?
  3. I have used Rain-X beading treatment on my windscreen for years. I saw that there is a screenwash available from the company that is supposed to maintain the hydrophobic properties of the windscreen, and it gets great reviews. However, one Amazon review makes reference to this causing a washer fluid sensor to fail in "German cars". The review references that there was a class action law suit from owners of VW, BMW, Mercedes, Mini and Chrysler cars to have Rain-X change their label so that it doesn't claim it is suitable for all vehicles (but I found via internet search that the lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice, meaning that there was no merit to the claim). There are some mentions on Reddit about the problem, but mostly with reference to the concentrated additive from Rain-X, as opposed to the ready-to-use mix that I link to above. Has anyone used this screenwash in their Skoda?
  4. I tested the URL you provided and using my VIN number, and the download did not work for me- I got this error message: This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below. <Error> <Code>InvalidUri</Code> <Message>The request URI is invalid. 5. @Ootohere In the Alps,I really need proper winter tyres and all-season ones are not enough.
  6. I realise that. 17" winter tyres are 50% more expensive than the same tyres in 16", and then the twice-annual re-fitting cost comes on top of that.
  7. In France at least, the selection of 16" rims and tyres is vastly greater and cheaper than that of 17". That's my only reason, but it means a saving of at least €450/£375.
  8. I am about to buy a set of four steel rims and four winter tyres and I just wanted to check I am thinking right about the equivalents and that these will fit. The summer tyres are 205/55R17 sitting on 17" alloys. I am planning to get 16" rims and mount 205/60R16 winter tyres. By my calculations, this will yield a circumference 0.8% smaller than the summer tyres, so should be perfectly fine as a substitute for 17" rims and tyres. I'll be saving 35-40% compared to buying 17" wheels, or an even larger saving if I were to look at Skoda rims. If I missed anything in my thinking, please let me know. (Obviously I am making sure to get the right bolt pattern etc.)
  9. It's one of the the largest vehicle testing (MOT) organisations in the world, offering MOT services in many countries. I found the example of the Munich Jaguar i-Pace taxis quite interesting - the article suggests that charging them to 100% every day has not been harmful but may even have contributed to their batteries being in good health at around 95-97% capacity after 180k-260k kms. This goes against some of the received wisdom in the thread above.
  10. This may be of interest. https://www.electrive.com/2024/12/18/dekra-certifies-that-ev-batteries-last-longer-than-expected/
  11. Let us know how you get on. That is the older Carista adapter, with some functional differences compared to the current one. I believe to make the app work, you need a subscription (monthly, quarterly or yearly).
  12. This Skoda article states that P is model year 2023 and that they skip Q, from which I deduce that R represents model year 2024. What is not entirely clear is whether FL models would be model year 2025 and have an "S" - perhaps someone with an FL can chip in?
  13. @386ka I'm interested in figuring out this model year vs calendar year thing. Could you tell me, what is the 10th letter of your VIN? The car I am waiting for and which was advertised as a 2024 car has an "R", but then characters 12-15 read "2023", so I am not quite sure what to believe.
  14. Zdravo i dobrodošli! 😊 I am also waiting for mine, except it is not an RS. If it were, I am not sure I could wait five months...
  15. I was amused by this section of the user manual for my Octavia:
  16. Thanks @Arcil. With this wheel, is there a lot of space between the wheel and the boot floor cover? If yes, what did you put to fill the gap? And, finally, since I am also in France I'd be interested in where you sourced the Alcar rim.
  17. OK, and with which tyre?
  18. Thanks, with the 205/55R17 being just 5mm larger in diameter than the 205/60/R16, that sounds hopeful. How do you like the new car? I'm eagerly awaiting picking mine up!
  19. @sarkyscouser Since there is space above the space saver, does it look like an actual full-size 205/55 R17 would fit?
  20. That makes perfect sense; the 12V battery is required for all the electronics, which I would assume include the circuits that tell the ISG and 48V battery what to do. What remains to be confirmed is whether the 12V battery is ever used to provide the actual power to the ISG. Incidentally, when your battery was drained, did KESSY stop working and if so how did you get around that?
  21. I am looking at buying some rims and winter tyres for my 2024 pFL Octavia. Are there any special TMPS considerations to be taken into account when selecting rims, or is it sufficient to stick with the correct dimensions for rims and tyres and the TMPS will just work?
  22. Has the instruction to "get out of the vehicle" been there for previous generations of updates, or is this new to 1985?
  23. @386ka I was told in another thread that all 2024 cars are FL. It would seem that you have helped disprove that – thanks. In your VIN, is the "NX" followed by "8RY"?
  24. Yes, but EFB or AGM batteries are really only required in start/stop vehicles that put a heavy, repeated load on the 12V battery. If this is not the case with the mild hybrid, it should only require a normal 12V battery, not the more expensive EFB or AGM types.
  25. I have read somewhere that cars equipped with belt integrated starter generators often don't use these and the 48V battery for cold starts due to, IIRC, issues with belt slippage. Instead they use the 12V battery. Does anyone know if this is the case for the 2024 150hp mild hybrid? Connected to this, if the mild hybrid almost always (or 100% of the time if it doesn't use the 12V battery for cold starts) uses the 48V battery for starting, then you should not require an EFB or AGM battery, am I right?
