  1. Yes, exactly. It's the can of gloop that seems to have an expiry date and I was just wondering if you can replace it with any generic gloop
  2. Had my car in for 4-year service and they said the "spare wheel" canister had expired. Is this something that needs replacing with a Skoda part or can you buy any generic canister?
  3. Same issue in my '12 FL hatch. I think the culprit is a poor seal where some cables exit through a rubber gasket slightly right of center. What sealant would people recommend to fix it?
  4. Of late, my Octy II FL 1.4 TSI 62-plate with about 45k miles has started to demonstrate the following behaviour: On cold starts, as you set off the DSG feels a bit sluggish. It really hesitates to switch from D2 to D3, letting the revs continue higher than otherwise, before switching to D3 with a noticeable "clunk". After a few miles, this problem disappears. The car had its regular service 6 months ago at an official dealer. Is this a well-known problem and/or is it as simple to fix as a gearbox oil change or similar - or should I be worried about something more similar?
  5. Thanks irc - exactly echoes my experience, so at least I know I'm not alone. I miss my Saab!
  6. Thanks WesternDuke, have spent some time reading that and a few other threads. Seems to be mixed advice about the aircon off all the time, on all the time or off for start and end of journey but on for middle of journey... I will get a Halfords dehumidifier bag and start playing around with the AC setting. I don't believe my mkII FL has a "Econ" setting but I'll have a look.
  7. This is my first winter with my '12 Octy II FL. I must say I am disappointed with two things: Slow heating - it takes several miles before the engine generates any heat to push through the ventilation system Poor fan power to demist the windscreen I don't like to run the car on idle for 20 minutes just to get the windscreen demisted on the inside. What I normally do is start the car, put it on maximum demist and leave it like that while I scrape the ice off the windows. In my previous car (a Saab), by the time I was finished scraping and got in the car to drive off, the windscreen was demisted and ready to go, but in the Skoda the fan is only just beginning to demist the lowest part of the windscreen. If I want to drive off at that point I have to wipe the inside of the windscreen with a cloth. Are there any settings one can alter in VCDS or anything else I can do to get quicker/better demisting? Thanks!
  8. Just to clarify - if I do this before I leave the UK, will I be blinding people here in the UK?
  9. OK, it seems there are some "boxes" out there that may work: Example: http://www.racechip.com/chiptuning/skoda/octavia/octavia-2/1-4-tsi-92kw/index.php http://www.bsr-tuning.co.uk/products/t1776/ There are remappings that are advertised for approximately this engine/gearbox combination but with caveats around decryption and having to visit a centre to read the ECU (as suggested also by Ant above). Finally, there are solutions advertised that do not mention any such issues with encryption etc. http://www.sharkperformance.co.uk/mapdetail?Skoda-Octavia-II-FL-2009--1.4-TSI-122bhp http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/search?make=33&model=142&fueltype=3&variant=2346 I will just have to contact some of these companies and see what they say - once I have something definitive, I'll update this thread. Which companies have been known to give a discount to Briskoda members? I seem to recall that Shark has done so in the past.
  10. This is a good example of the issues with finding a solution for Octavia II 1.4 TSI. That configuration is not listed on the DTU website. However, they list something called Octavia 1Z 1.4L TSI, which only links to a page saying "Throttle Response System", with no indication of what it does or what the performance increase is - or am I missing something?
  11. Thanks Ant. How weird - I could have sworn that wasn't coming up when I searched two days ago. My eyesight must be going...
  12. I am keen to boost my 122bhp 1.4 TSI engine in my 2012 Octy II DSG. RaceChip has a box that claims to do this and leave no traces after removal: http://www.racechip.com/chiptuning/skoda/octavia/octavia-2/1-4-tsi-92kw/index.php Does anyone have any experience/feedback on this company and its products?
  13. I am interested in turning my 122bhp engine into the 138bhp that the Octy III has. Shark doesn't seem to offer such a retune, but Revo has something similar on their web page. Overall, remaps for the 1.4 122 seem very rare. Has anyone here done any tuning or remap of this engine? Anyone who done this with a DSG? Ideally, I'd like a self-tune.
  14. I am lookng to buy a used Octavia and there are dealers out there advertising 2011 and 2012 models as having a 1.4L engine with 140 bhp. Are they simply mistaken, or was the 140PS engine actually fitted to Octy IIs? I thought the 140PS engine was only introduced in 2013 for the new Octy III. Oh, and is there anywhere here on the forum where I might have found this info - I searched but got no hits that helped?
