  1. I had the same issue with my 2014 vRS. Outside of the rear disc were pitting and corroding badly and noisy under braking. I flagged it to the dealer at 1st service but they said it was normal wear.

it got to the point where it was grinding under normal driving at 17k miles so I booked it into another dealer for rear discs and pads and asked them to check for anything unusual and keep the old parts. They told me calipers were slightly sticky but when I looked at the old parts it was clear the inner pads were worn down to the metal and outers were like new, with the groove still visible.  All braking was being done by inner pads.

I was not happy having malfunctioning calipers from new and having to replace discs and pads at 17k miles.

Dealers agreed it was unusual but brakes are wear and tear, so I took it up with Skoda customer services who also gave "wear and tear" defence.

I raised it further with the motor codes ombudsman but an independent inspection would be required at more than the £120 the new brakes cost me so not cost effective and with no guarantee of success so I had to accept defeat at that point.

Edit: just re-read the op and it seems he has a different issue with break wear uneven across the outer face. My issue was uneven wear between inner/outer pads.
  2. Quick update.

I paid to have my car serviced as I didn't want to go to far past the 1 year mark and risk the warranty. It was clear that the dealership was not going to accept my arguments/evidence anytime soon, and they don't have anyone senior enough to make a decision.

Skoda UK followed up my case and after sending them copies of the website dorfl linked to they agreed that I should have been given a service plan. Today they have managed to get the dealer to admit to them that a mistake was made, saying that my order was not processed/accepted until after the offer had ended.

Because the dealer principal is away for a few weeks SUK are waiting for him to return before pushing for a resolution.

So big thumbs up for Skoda UK customer services. Hopefully get something sorted out soon.

  3. Hi Folks,

Ordered my vRS TDi estate 17th December 2013 with 0% PCP and free servicing offer, and collected it on 1st July 2014.

Today dropped into the dealer for the 1st service and got a phone call 3 hours later saying my car wasn't on the system as having a service plan, and I would have to pay for the service if i wanted it.

I Called VWFS to see what was going on and they also have no record of me having free services, only the finance.

Went back to dealer to see what was going on and it seems, to me, they have not registered me for free servicing at the time of collection, and they need proof i was offered/sold it. (Sales guy I used is no longer there too)

I don't have any paperwork for it because the paperwork was never done. I was under the impression that VWFS put car on servicing database and send me a letter, but I obviously never received it.

The dealer doesn't have any record of the 0%/servicing offer from late 2013, the've asked for old campaign details from Skoda UK but that could take a few days.

Does anyone have any paperwork from Skoda UK showing finance/servicing offer from December 2013?

Maybe a flyer or advert or something? I think it was part of the '3 big reasons to buy a new skoda' campaign. Google was not much use to me here.

Did anyone else receive paperwork at the time of collection regarding free servicing? what am i missing that I should have been given?

Car is home now, unserviced. Going back in on Wednesday to try and sort everything out.

    Cheers!

  4. When my vRS went in to the dealer for a warranty replacement I unplugged my cam.

I got it to provide evidence if needed during an accident while I was driving. I have no interest on trying to catch out some mechanic trying to do his job.

I know there have been some cases of mistreatment caught on dashcams but If I can't trust the dealer with my motor then who can I trust to repair and service it.

Had a chat about the cam to the sales guy who took it in he seemed quite interested in how it worked and how I had already caught someone reversing into me in the street. He knew it was turned off.

My car was also returned 50 miles to my home with a 55mpg average and a topped up tank of fuel, so no reason to suspect any mistreatment or to spy on them in future.

  5. Such a good looking car. They look awesome with the DRLs on in day time. How are you finding the DSG mated to a diesel engine?

I find the DSG works fine with the diesel, it's smooth and relaxed and doesn't get caught out very often. Occasionally it kicks down at awkward times, like turning into a uphill junction, but that could just be my unrefined right foot. Most of the time it behaves remarkably well. This is my first 'automatic' car and I can't see me going back to manual on my daily driver.

  6. Wow. I thought that was a bit early and then I noticed where you live. So after due consideration, I guess it's a bit late? ;)

Yes I'm a bit early also, but I work away from home for two weeks every month and my next chance to swap over would be mid November, maybe too late. Temps are getting into the range for winter rubber now and I'm wary of running the diamond-cut Geminis on the salty roads. Plus the tread on the OE contis sport contact 2s seems to wear quickly, might prolong them a few months by swapping early.

As for the centre caps, I'd be mentioning it to the dealer if a couple of them were bad.

  7. Winter wheels and tyres on today. Took the opportunity to give the arch liners, suspension and calipers a thorough clean out while wheels are off.

BBS Leon alloys give the car quite a different look, they are still 18" but look smaller than the Geminis I think because of the contrast with the tyres. Or maybe suspension needs to settle again after being jacked up, looking at the arch gaps.

Tyres are budget winters that came on the wheels, I'll see how they do this year and probably swap them for some decent ones next year unless they are really dreadful and need swapped ASAP.

Some before and after shots, sorry some of them are a bit wonky :)

  8. Tbh it didn't seem like a well cared for car as it was quite dirty inside like it had done the tip run but my issues were the rear backrest 1/2 leather covers which were not taught and quite creased and i know they are plastic ultimately but poor quality centre cap damage almost like corrosion.

One of my centre caps has gone this way I noticed today when swapping on to my winter wheels. It certainly hasn't seen any acidic wheel cleaner.

  9. Sweet, might get some muddys myself now.

Nice thread Spudey, are the mudflaps well secured despite not having the 6mm thingy installed?

Looking forward to your next update.

Thanks folks. They do seem to be secure enough without the extra plastic plug, I'll probably still fit them when I get a chance for completeness.

I forgot to mention I have reverse parked with the wheels against various kerbs and the clearance seems to be fine, I believe the lower ride height clearance is why they are not recommended by Skoda on the vRS.

  10. I got some mudflaps from skodaparts.ie a while ago so I though put up some photos to help anyone trying to decode to fit them to an Octavia III, or a vRS in particular.

I fitted them with the wheels in place, I did not use the plastic stud in the front pair that requires a 6mm hole drilled, I may add this next time I have the wheels off.

Packaged flaps, Torx driver I used and the screws

  11. So I collected my car back in July, so I though it was time to update here with what I've been up to over the last few months...

On collection day at the dealer.

First full detail, citrus pre-wash and snow foam followed by tar and iron decontamination, then a hand wash with AM bubbles. Wheels brushed clean with G101 apc. Then paint was hand polished with GTechniq P1, with only the gloss black pillars required some swirl correction with the DA polisher. Protected with GTechniq C1 on the paint, wheels and plastics and then two layers of GTechniq EXO applied to the paint and wheels. Glass was done with G1 front and rear, with G5 on the sides.
