  1. I've been contemplating booking in my manual petrol VRS for a check on the gearbox. It's definitely more notchy than my previous 1.4tsi, although I'm guessing the gearbox is not exactly the same. Occasionally it will refuse to go into first and needs to be moved into second then back to first before it will engage. I'm just loath to take it in as I'm convinced they will give me the same answer that you got. I've only done 3000 miles, but it has been the same since new (4 months).
  2. Great, it arrived a bit sooner than expected. The mat is certainly nice and solid. I don't remember if it helped much with the noise, but it is good for protection. I think i'll put some silentcoat in the boot at some point - it must have some effect on all that bare metal!
  3. OK so it's not made of lead, but it still weighs 6.5kg! ...and it is just the standard rubber mat. Looks like there's a few options for less than a tenner, so are you ok for £35 incl? I probably won't be able to send before the weekend though.
  4. I'll find out what it costs to post - it's pretty heavy. I just imagined that by the time you added postage it wouldn't be far off the cost to buy new?
  5. Boot mat is still available. Should anyone else be interested, i'm based in East Grinstead.
  6. Having recently changed my Octavia III hatch for an estate I now have the following for sale. Prefer collection from West Sussex as they are heavy/awkward to post. Original Skoda rubber boot mat (for hatch) £25 Xshades rear window blinds (for hatch) £28 Attaches to window frame using tiny magnets.
  7. The holes were all present for the rear flaps, but I had to make an extra hole for the front ones. It was a bit fiddly to fit with the wheels still on, but no big deal. ** You beat me to it Matt!**
  8. This thread should do it. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/333851-how-to-insert-pics-or-thumbnails-into-post/?hl=%2Bupload+%2Bphotos#entry4015746
  9. I put the pics on photobucket then linked from there. I'll see if I can find the post that explained it for me.
  10. All sounds great, but I've read that the rim protection is pretty poor with these tyres. What size wheels do you have and how does the protection look?
  11. Hi, do you have any feedback on the noise levels yet? I'm thinking about replacing my Bridgestones with the eagle f1a3's. To be honest the Bridgestones are noisy at all speeds let alone 130kmh.Thanks. Just seen your latest post - question answered!!
  12. Moving from an Elegance (hatch) to a VRS combi I find that the rear of the car is much quieter now, but the front end is noisier! What tyres are you using at the moment - i'm pretty sure it's the Bridgestones that are the source of my noise.
  13. Yes they've been very good so far. I bought the first car from Tunbridge Wells, but this time round they didn't have a petrol VRS demonstrator, so I went to Broadbridge Heath instead (I'm in East Grinstead).
  14. The dealer was Station Garage, Broadbridge Heath. It's a petrol. That bit went missing when the original post went wrong! I still think the red looks nice, but I would miss the sparkle that you get from the blue, common though it is!
  15. Well that's embarrassing. Half the post never appeared even though the preview looked fine. Edit - sorted it on the PC - flippin iPad.
  16. After what seemed like an eternity (3 months after ordering) Octavia #1 was handed back for a newer and better #2. #1 was a 1.4Tsi Elegance and apart from a spare wheel was a bog standard model from stock. At the time I couldn't stand the thought of a 3 month wait so went without a few of the bits I would have liked. Having said that it was a great car with a fantastic engine and loads of space in a relatively compact body. It was totally reliable and only had a few minor rattles to fix Duff post - please remove!!

Having said that it was a great car with a fantastic engine and loads of space in a relatively compact body. It was totally reliable and only had a few minor rattles to fix ! Normally I always go for the sensible option, so #2 is a bit of a departure from my norm, and damn me if it isn't the business. Originally ordered as Corrida red, we changed back to the blue as it does look amazing in the sun. Compared to #1 the steering is much more responsive and the ride is slightly firmer yet also less fidgety. The independent rear suspension is so much quieter than the torsion beam, but there's maybe a bit more tire roar from the front (probably due to the Bridgestones). Performance wise I'm taking it easy, but a few quick squirts shows there's a lot of go in it Options wise I added a few bits, but the winter pack and Canton are the major items. The Canton sounds good already and should only get better. It's maybe not as loud as I expected, but that might be just because it sounds very clean with little distortion. The MIB2 Amundsen is much better than the original. The screen is fantastic and the system is somewhat snappier too. A nice touch is that the radio stations icons download automatically whereas I had to add them manually before. Some of the switchgear also feels more solid and as far as I can tell it's not just because of the age gap between the two cars. Overall it is great. I think the Elegance was good but the VRS is one to love.
  19. I can't comment on their winter credentials yet, but they seem quieter and more compliant than the Dunlop sport maxx RT that were fitted from new. Grip seems fine, but they haven't been on long.
  20. We have a hatch and a medium sized pooch. When she was a pup we used a borrowed cage and put her in the boot. This was fine, but a bit of a pain when we went away as it took up half the boot space. Now she has outgrown the cage we have switched to a harness and clip her to the back seat isofix mount. She sits in the middle between the kids, and whilst she probably now has less room than in the boot, she seems happier and we can keep an eye on her. Should probably get a seat cover now though. On another note. When she was in the boot we stowed the parcel shelf, and this unfortunately increased the rear end rumble no end.
  21. Has it reduced any of the suspension related noise as well - the persistent rumble and thumps?
