  3. Well had to shell out on the Octavia today, shocking! Replacement brake switch sourced from local TPS, £13.00p. Great link from Kentphil1 on how to fit it correctly . Again the Briskoda web site proves invaluable. Long live Octavia 110 Tdi
  4. Hi Guys Thanks for your replies. Finally my car hunting has been resolved. Settled on a low mileage B8 1.6 Diesel 120 Passat. Not getting rid of my 110 tdi Octavia...... Truly an engine so flexible and reliable
  5. When I looked at the engine yesterday I immediately saw the twin cam layout. My only question to skoda agent was is it belt or chain drive.sales said it was a chain. I then asked for answer from the workshop and back the reply its belt driven. Wish I had taken a photo. Coil packs were there between the cam covers. My test drive went well, very surprised how well it pulled. Regards
  6. Thanks Guys No problems with this EA211 belt driven engine I hope. Regards
  7. Hi Guys Looked at a 63 reg Octavia 1.2 tsi and it looked to me it was a belt driven twin cam motor. would this be correct. Have seen a lot of chain driven problems online and am under the impression that they went to a belt because of this. Regards Benterrier
  8. Hi Guys what's this petrol 1.4 150ps motor like in the Octavia 3. Is it screwing the nuts off it developing this power. Does it have Turbo and supercharger ? Interested in it with DSG box. Regards
  9. Its a sod how the once relative simple diesel engine has become so complex and expensive to maintain. Gone are the days of my first diesel car, a mk1 5 speed diesel golf. So progress and lots of money making ideas in the name of a healthier environment has led to this piece of unfinished technology, costing the unwitting motorist hundreds of pounds. I went for a test drive the other day and asked the salesman about DPF's ... He said we don't want to talk about those things now do we , jokingly! and its not covered in the warranty with this secondhand car your driving, its a consumable. So my idea of a 2013, 90k mileage Passat tdi cr 140 for £7.500 ...(sorry but is a VAG car)isn't a great idea me thinks. Thanks for your replies guys and sorry if I went off topic ....(Octavia 3) Regards Benterrier
  10. Thanks guys.I guess by your replies several things influence the service life of the unit. How is this regeneration activated, bye the car or driver? and what does it involve.
  11. Hi Guys What's the chances of DPF failure when buying a high mileage diesel .......80k plus. Is there any way of checking how close to failure a DPF is. Regards Benterrier
  12. hi my first request if I had the car would be to paint brake callipers black. they did it with the seats, changing those ridiculous white panels everybody tried so hard to keep clean. just my opinion guys. benterrier
  13. Hi Guys What are these 1.6 and 2.0 common rail engines like in the mk3 Octavia. Heard so many reports of previous engines being troublesome with injector and cracking head problems. Guy told me don't touch car with Siemens injectors but Bosch were okay. so many confusing reports. benterrier
  14. Hi My 2002 Octavia periodically suffers a power lose. Will only rev to 4000 rpm and is very flat. If I stop and switch off/on again it resets and normal power is restored and I get no problem for sometime....a week or more. A motor engineer has told me, he has the same fault with his vehicle (the same). He says that I am leaving my foot slightly on the clutch pedal when changing up and says there is switch on it that causes the fault. No faults light comes on, although on long journeys sometimes the yellow heater plug dash indicator starts flashing for about a minute and then goes off again causing no engine effect. Don't know if the 2 are connected. Would appreciate some input. Car has done genuine 115k, I've had it from 36k and no problems with it until now. I've cleaned the airflow sensor but has no effect. Regards Benterrier
  15. Hi Guys Looking at the other back door that opens, I can see the door card fixing screws are inaccessible on the locked shut door. So do you have to trash the door card to gain access to the internals ? Regards
  16. Hi All My back nearside door will not open on 2002 Octavia. The lock indicator stays down while the other 3 doors go up and down as key fob is pressed. From the inside of the car when the exit lever is pulled the locking indicator rises but the door wont open. regards Benterrier
  17. Hi Guys Thanks for your replies. I unlocked and locked the car several times yesterday and interior light behaved as it should and also the car locked after the delay period if the door wasn't opened as it should and vice versa. Will keep an eye on it and not leave the keys anywhere inside. Regards Benterrier
  18. Hi All My Octavia 2002 1.9 Tdi has started to lock all doors after it has been unlocked by remote after the usual delay. Opening a door after unlocking should stop this, am I correct. Have seen it mentioned somewhere on the forum. Thanks for any advice. Regards Benterrier
  19. Hi All back together, tried and road tested, OK. Will do the other side tomorrow, its so cold !!!! Thanks Every Body
  20. Thanks, great help thank Bowders 1. Your message just buzzed on my phone as I got it out. I did have to use the spring compressors to reduce the spring length as the top spring cap had come through the coils due to the spring breaking. The car is a 2002 model having done 80k and things were not to badly corroded luckily. I did disconnect the ARB link to the wish bone for more movement. Got onto a local Motor factors and the parts......£25 per spring , also bearings come as a kit. Every thing cleaned now waiting for delivery to local garage. Regards Benterrier
  21. Hi I have since done a search on the site and found that I can take the top nut off as there is another one under that. Also found a exploded view of the strut assembly. I read that strut can give some grief getting it out of its seating in the hub assembly. Going to order a pair of springs from Europarts 40 quid, if anyone knows of cheaper or better quality please let me know Regards Benterrier
  22. Hi Thanks DBP for your reply. Just got round to the repair come some dry weather. Jacked up the car and found the coil spring is broken...a piece about 40 mm off the top of the spring was laying in the strut cup. OK so I have to take the strut assembly out .......under the bonnet is a 21mm? nut and 7 mm allen head, is ok to take the nut off to get the cup off..... will anything fly apart. What is the procedure please. regards benterrier
  23. Hi I have a problem with my 2002 110 tdi octavia, when maneuvering in tight spaces and using full lock it makes noise as though coil spring on the front o/s strut is turning out of the seating. Guy who does my repairs says it's the bearing on top of the strut failing in this ****y wet salty weather! Can I get all the parts from gsf parts to do the repair.....can't get guy to do work for 3 weeks, he says it will be alright until then. Regards
