Give it to Oli Chris - he's got plenty of Tim on his hands and has been practising on his swing arm...

Good to hear it's all done and dusted Chris, never easy.
More worrying is that you are back to your 'normal' self.
Scary.

Thanks. Last one I went to (another ex colleague and good friend) was a non religous service which I thought was good me not being religious in any way. I suspect tomorrow may be the same.
After I typed the last message it suddenly dawned on me that out of the three of us on my advanced course (Dave being the instructor and two pupils) I am the only one left! A very sobering thought. The other guy (Andy) was killed not long after the course when he was knocked off his unmarked bike by a driver doing a u turn in his car and caravan. So tomorrow I will remember both of them.
If you guys are doing nothing at half one tomorrow spare me a thought and that will help me through a sad and difficult day.
Will do exactly that Chris.

Love it mate, that's the way to do it.
You had the first service done yet ?
Bike looks great.

Sad news Chris. After enough funerals to last a lifetime we now use the service as a celebration of a great life. Doesn't make it any easier mind.
Hope the day goes as well as it can.

It's been an on and off search for 3 weeks now for my locks keys :( I want to commute on the bike, but I have 2 sets of keys for my locks and they are AWOL...... FML! 17 Deg C yesterday and finishing just after 9pm it was still semi light, car like a greenhouse and so not happy to be strapping myself into it under the circumstances.
Anyone know where I left either set?? :|
Fuubs, ask my Mrs. She hides everything in a safe place so I cant find it. Nightmare.

Lol had many screams in lesser situations, never mind the "just measure the sag woman before I drop it" situation. She might think you're referring to something else...
-
I can see it now Chris, you screaming instruction at the wife while puffing and very red faced.
Divorce has taken less !!!!

If this isn't possible then he'd need to see a suspension expert and get individual settings for 1, 2 and maybe 3 slices solo plus double with a pillion too I guess....
He needs a race technician as a pillion to set up the bike every time he stops for cake.
Chris - could Mrs Wright go on a course to do this ?

You guys should be on the stage! It leaves in half an hour!!
So ignoring the second rate cabaret puny yes I do have the handbook and have been looking at videos and stuff this morning. I want to check the sag before I do much else but I can see that the rebound damping is set to 4 instead of the factory setting of 5 so I will have a check to see what the other settings are by turning them completely one way and counting them all the way back so I know how many clicks there are to make sure it coincides with what the book says. Once I have done that I shall put them back to factory and go for a ride to see what happens.
I think as Mad said it is a case of doing it one thing at a time and keeping notes of what I have done so I don't confuse myself. I have always found that if things are getting out of hand a break with a brew and cake (biscuits also work) helps to go back with a fresh look at it.
Above all else I am determined to fathom this and other stuff out so I can do it myself rather than pay someone to do it. Likewise with servicing I shall change oil and stuff myself and make sure that I have learned how to do brakes properly as well. I realise that it isn't that complicated to check and change pads but it is just that I have not done it that is making me wary of it. I have plenty of time on my hands and the less I have t give to others to do stuff for me leaves more money for me and ............................!
That's the way to do it Chris, start from a known point, write down one change and see what happens. You'll get there.
Brakes really are easy. Just keep the grease on the right side of the pad, get everything clean, sliding freely and torqued to the right spec.

Trouble is that Chris's bikes have to cope with cake and without cake - needs to buy adaptive suspension me thinks

The old speed was a bit of a handful, you needed to muscle it around on the twisties.
By heck did it wheelie though, very entertaining.
The new 2016 speed is supposedly properly sorted and the best of the nakeds now. Looks the business.
When's the meet up chaps ?????

Yeah that's a good shout mate, don't want that situation again.
I'll try not to ride it too much in case I become a tw%t.

I like the plan - I'm not sure if trumpf calibrated the damping so that 1 additional click equates to one large slice of cake.....???

The duchess has a street triple, I absolutely love riding it. Probably the best all round bike I've ever ridden. Stonking engine, ridiculously light and you can make very serious progress on it.

Great looking picture of the fleet Chris and nice to get a back to back ride in.
Suspension wise I'd advise changing only one thing at a time otherwise you'll get no where.
First thing is to get your pre load set for static sag ie measure the ride height with no weight on the bike then the same again with you on it. Not sure what trumpf recommend setting this to but 25 mm should be sensible.
Once this is right back off the damping to the middle setting for compression and rebound and tweak only one click at a time on one setting only at one end of the bike until it feels better. Try both directions to increase and reduce.
from memory having ridden quite a few of these they were set pretty hard from the factory.
Compression and rebound damping can make the bike feel rock hard just like you're feeling. Coming from the tex will probably exaggerate the Daytona too.
Or just eat loads more cake.

Good to hear fella, more training is a good thing.
Did my bike and car through the IAM many moons ago. Ought to have another assessment really.
It's all too easy to become complacent.

Spot on mate, got a coat of Collinite insulator wax all over it. Looks great.
Absolutely love tinkering, the wife was away so had a day of man jobs today.

Well the bike had its top to bottom clean and polish today, looks mint again.
Tried some auto glym degreaser on the chain lube, just comes off with a hose down.
Wiped the chain over to get the muck off, fresh coat of lube applied.
Ready for another weeks commute !!

Sadly a story told most if not every day in the UK. All we can do personally is ensure that we are not the subject of such a story each and every day we go out by looking after our own destiny. If you have done any higher level training then practice it and use it all the time and if you haven't then seriously look at doing some.
I know our local bike IAM group (if not Nationally) are offering an hour assessment free to anyone who wants it. Also quite a few Police Forces offer a Ride Safe course. None of us are perfect and I am the first to admit that about my own riding. I 'try' to ride the best I can every time I go out for my own survival and even with all the training I received I still find myself tut tutting in my helmet. Thing is to recognise your own mistakes and not blame others and then rectify them.
Not preaching just hoping we all have a good summer out there.
Well said that man.

Well it happened !! After all the talk of a meet last year we finally made it happen today .
Chris and I met over at Chris walkers showroom for day 2 of his 1st anniversary open weekend.
A cracking ride over, met Chris there just before 11.
After buying as few or as many raffle tickets as you saw fit you were greeted with as many teas, coffees and food as you could manage. Bacon rolls up to 11:30, burgers til 2:30 then Chris ' s favourite, cake, until close.
Boy did we pack some food and tea away.
Shorty walker and lanky hickman both showed up for the entire time we were there, had their race bikes and sidecar there.
Great showroom, some eye wateringly expensive bikes there and all sorts of bikers turning up. Not to mention some lycra clad lovelies.
Great ride back via the wife's work for a brew and a couple of heavy showers thrown in.
Great to finally meet you Chris, very enjoyable time indeed.
Bring on the next one.
Cheers
Ps Oli, who the f$&ks Oli ??!!! No we didn't miss you mate.
