Front fog cornering lights
ozoccy replied to Chunkstar's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Will do if I remember, based on previous experience it should be a big improvement. Only problem is if the light is tpo blue. Sent using tapatalk -
Adaptice Cruise Control with Front Assistant Query
ozoccy replied to panmat's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
It activated for my wife the other day. A car stopped suddenly and the brakes applied a split second before her foot got to the pedal. She said it was quite a harmless process and no harder than she would have braked. Sent using tapatalk -
Front fog cornering lights
ozoccy replied to Chunkstar's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
I've just ordered some....all the way from the UK. They would have to be an improvement. -
Front tyres do most of the braking and have the biggest impact on cornering and control. As an example, not sure if anyone has experienced a blow out, rear is relatively easy to control while front is a real hand full. Best tyres always on the front! Sent using tapatalk

Reliability/build quality issues?
ozoccy replied to iDENTITi's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Statistically there will be failures in all car makes and types, the complexity of modern cars doesn't help. Its how frequent they are that matters and on that basis Skoda is quite good. For me I'm more concerned about whether the company stands by their product and that seems to be dealer dependant, as I found out with my Toyota. -
It really holds the gears and goes well, don't think it changes the engine as much as the DSG. What I love on the DSG is that you can switch from Eco to sports and back again by pushing the gear lever back once. Great if you need to pull into traffic or just have some quick fun

Must be running an 'energy polariser', Google it.

High Beam assistant with bi-xenon
ozoccy replied to NickBrown's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
I'm confused. I definitely have the rain sensing option and my lights come on in a tunnel, but as far as I can tell there is no camera behind the mirror. There are four sensors that look a bit like LEDs. So which system have I got? -
Apart from the warm fuzzy feeling you get from pressing the buttons, what real difference do these modes make? The steering and a few of the other settings are pretty obvious but what about the engine, what changes?

I really would have liked it but I suspect that it would have made the car too hot in summer, I live in oz and it's 40+ here today. From what I saw it has a transparent shade but no full cover to block sun, is that correct? Sent using tapatalk

Automatic main beam under 60km/h
ozoccy replied to Sino's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
My understanding of the beam patterns is that they are designed to enhance safety by providing the optimum spread pattern at specific speeds. Before messing with this it would be worth checking that there are no unintended consequences such as increased blinding of oncoming traffic. . -
Car accidents and humans don't mix. It's all about finding ways to dissipate and minimise energy transfer between vehicles and humans, this is all that the many safety devices in cars are designed to do. Too much energy or too quickly transferred = damaged person.

Remember that these will only deploy in a severe impact. Having attended many car accidents, I would take my chances with an airbag over metal hitting my kids, but each to his own. This video shows what happens on the Octavia III in testing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uayRqZIJyOs

1.4 tsi manual - real world mpg
ozoccy replied to metis's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Noy sure where you got that information. I have a petrol Skoda but my other car is a diesel. I do a lot of towing with the diesel, a petrol engine can't come close to the economy of the diesel when working hard. Sent from my GT-I9300T using Tapatalk -
Canton technical specification
ozoccy replied to ozoccy's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Thanks, found it and looks like a proper amp so it would be interesting to know the specs. -
1.4 tsi manual - real world mpg
ozoccy replied to metis's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
I was using metric units and I thought this forum was in the UK or are you pretending to be in the USA after that tragic cricket result? -
Does anyone know where I can find the technical specification for the Canton 570W digital amplifier? Also where is the amplifier physically located in the car? I assume that the Colombus only acts as a head unit and does not provide power.

1.4 tsi manual - real world mpg
ozoccy replied to metis's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Second tank on my 1.4 DSG with mixed city driving is runnning at 7.1l/100km (40mpg), first tank was 8l/100km (34mpg). I assume that the manual should be pretty close to that. -
Just bought a new Octavia III 1.4 TSI Elegance wagon (estate in UK ) for my wife. Our first Skoda, didn't start out looking for a Skoda but my wife absolutely wanted a smart key (KESSY), because my car has it and she loves not having to get her key out of her bag to use the car. Unfortunately the Golf and the Passat which I was looking at don't come with a Smart key option in Australia, neither do Subaru which was another option, except for a couple of top end models. The Skoda looks great in candy white. Very impressed with the car and it's features . The Canton stereo is a pearler, this will be the first car where I won't be putting in an aftermarket stereo. But the real surprise is the engine. We drove the 1.8 but realised that we didn't need the power, the 1.4 is quicker than our previous Honda Euro! Also the DSG which I really like seemed to work better with the 1.4 than the 1.8. The fuel consumption is also quite amazing, 8l/100km on the very first tank. The car has a bunch of neat features which I didn't fully appreciate when I bought the car, like adaptive cruise (brilliant), the Kessy which is a step ahead of the system on my Toyota as it won't let you lock you keys in the car and you can close the windows by touching the door handle. and the lights under the mirrors which come on and illuminate around the car at night. So a happy new Skoda owner looking forward to joining this forum Attached are a few snaps of my new Octavia, not the greatest quality as the photos were taken with my phone.

You have honest salesmen? I'd settle for one who knows something about the car

Hi treendale, answers; 1. Spare is steel 205/55 16, looks like nothing bigger would fit in the space. 2. No boot net, was hard enough getting them to sell the demo. It basically had no km south on the clock. 3. No, wouldn't want to tow with the DSG, manual should be fine. We use my car for towing our off road camper. 4. Melville, what about you.? I so where is the hidden ignition key hole.

Perth. Does Skoda have fixed price servicing in the UK?
