  1. I had an Audi A3 with DSG and paddle shifts on the steering wheel which I loved except that it was slow to pull away approaching roundabouts unless it had selected the right gear. It was better running in 'sport' mode or by using the paddles to downshift manually but not perfect. My understanding with the Karog DSG's is that the box still shifts up at the earliest opportunity and therefore makes acceleration sluggish as it waits for the engine to be 'on song'. This is especially true for 1.0 TSI although new ones are not available with DSG any more. The 1.5 TSI had all sorts of early problems with 'flat spots' at low revs which should have been sorted with software updates but if buying second hand should be thoughly test driven in all sorts of driving situations. The DSG on my Audi went bang and was off the road for 3 weeks awaiting repairs thankfully under warranty, but it was enough for me to say I would never have another. If buying a new car and changing at 3 years, then I may give a DSG another go, but if buying and keeping for several years, then I would not (just in case). Others will disagree, and I was maybe unlucky and the newer DSG models are proving more reliable, but I also prefer to have more control over the gears I am using when driving.
  2. Absolutely agree. Done it many times. Never realised that I was doing it until I needed the lights on as I normally leave it on Auto.

Meteor Grey has a great shine as in prevoius post and also does not show the dirt as much as some others do.
  4. Mines a manual. I was out in the car yesterday and tried to identify some more parameters when the squeal appears. So, its at around 2500rpm on a light throttle in 3rd or 4th gear when its most noticeable. Its possible that a DSG changes up a gear before then? I have also tried to reproduce the squeal when stationery but with no luck. It is definitely an engine noise, as backing off the throttle OR slightly increasing the throttle will immediately stop the noise.
  5. Thanks for your reply. I am pleased I am not the only one, so it must be a 'feature' of the 1.0TSI. I agree it sounds like a pressure relief valve opening and since I have had my hearing aids, I hear it every time I go out in the car. I am surprised that if this is the case and its a 'feature', that its not been mentioned on here before.
  6. There are several different options for spare wheels which depend on the base vehicle. If yours is a two wheel drive with 17" standard wheels, the spacesaver verion is an 18" wheel which is very narrow, The Kit from a Skoda dealer includes the tray and fittings for about £250 https://www.caffynscarparts.com/skoda-karoq-2-wheel-drive-model-spare-wheel-kit-1863-p.asp But there are plenty of other places selling just a compatible wheel.
  7. No bag in my November 2020 Karoq 1.0TSI
  8. I have had this car from new (2019) and it was not long before the wife pointed out that she could hear an intermittent squeal coming from the front of the car. Being slightly hard of hearing, I couldn't hear it but assumed it was brake squeal so did nothing about it. However 3 years on and I have finally got hearing aids as I was diagnosed as having poor high frequency hearing problems, so I can now hear the squeal!! Trying to isolate where it is coming from, it appears most often between 30 and 40mph when on a light throttle. Applying the brakes with a left foot does not make it stop, but either taking my foot off the accelerator OR pressing it harder stops the squeal immediately. I can reproduce the noise using a light throttle at around 30 - 40mph and it does not matter if I am driving in a straight line or going around a bend in either direction. I am not exactly bothered about the squeal as the car performs as expected with no other issues, but wondered if my car is unique or if this happens on other members cars? Any ideas anybody? Dave
  9. Thanks - I was in the doctors having a flu jab, so the car had been left for about 10 mins before the second start. After I got home, I left the car for several minutes while Googling the problem, and when I tried starting again the fault had disappeared. It might be that the battery was now more charged up than previously.
  10. Good idea - thanks. I have checked the battery and its a Varta EFB. Dealer suggests monitoring the possible problem over the next week or so and letting them know. They have not heard of this problem before.
  11. On starting the car this morning there was a beep and a warning triangle on the display followed by 'Check Starter System'. The car had started ok and the message disappeared but the warning triangle remained. I stopped the car about 1 mile away and restarted to get the same thing again. Car drives OK. When I got home, I tried starting the engine again and this time all was well - no more warnings or beeps. The car had not been used for about 3 days, but it was not sluggish turning over so don't think the battery is faulty. A quick Google shows a number of other VAG models have reported similar issues which pointed to the ignition switch. My car is coming up to 3 years old so do not want to have a problem out of warranty. Anybody else had the same problem and found a common fix for it please? Thanks
  12. I have never subscribed to Skoda Connect and the journey info screen always comes up at the beginning (assuming a recent previous journey that day) and the end of the next journey.
  13. Karoq or Octavia? 1.4L ?
  14. I have had 2 x Yeti on PCP finance and in both cases the trade in value did not cover the settlement value so I just handed them back. They were both under the mileage limit. I have since had 1 x Yeti and currently a Karoq on PCH which works out much cheaper over 3 years than PCP and I just hand back the car at the end of the contract. Also, PCH includes the Road Tax.
  15. I have noticed a faint rattle coming from the rear door area on bumpy roads and upon investigation I noticed that tapping both the rear door sill covers that they rattle. The ones on the front doors are solid and sound firmly attached when tapping. It would appear that the bottom edge of the sill covers is where they are not very firmly attached but I cannot see how they are attached. They are not falling off - just loose enough to rattle. Anybody else noticed this? The car is due for a service in a couple of months time so could get the dealer to look at it, but I could also try and get some silicone in the gap on the bottom edge of the door. Suggestions please.

I have only had it activate once with brakes applied and a couple of times with warnings on the dash. Each time was following other traffic which braked suddenly without warning. It seems to work well but don't ask me how it knows not to give false warnings.
  17. I have driven and owned many cars over the last 50 years and have been totally blown away with how good the Karoq 1.0 SE is. I have the 'tech' version which adds SatNav and parking sensors but is in essense an SE and I would have another one without hesitation when this lease ends. I drove a 1.5 before deciding on the 1.0 and did not see the point of the extra cost plus the one I drove had the 'no power when approaching a roundabout' issue which the salesman said he had never heard of and I was probably in the wrong gear! A test drive will soon show you if you think you can live with the car, but I think you will be surprised how good it is. So my choice wouild be number 1. Happy shopping!

My Karoq is the quietest sqeak free car I have ever owned. The doors shut with a reassuring clunk too without any of the rattles my old Yeti had. Suspension is very rubbery with no rattles or squeaks over bad road surfaces. All in all, the best put together car I have owned in 50 years of motoring. Strangely the first car I owned was a Morris 1000 with a 998cc engine and this Koroq also has a 998cc engine but the difference is amazing. Absolutely no comparison and shows how technology has moved on in 50 years!
  19. Does yours have the new USB socket near the rear view mirror (Model year 2021)? Saves all the wiring to the fuse box.
  20. Just an update to my original post. The oil temp guage is working OK. On a longer journey today it displays the temperature once it gets to 50 degrees C.
  21. You may be right. It was a relatively short journey and the outside temp was close to zero. I will check it again on the next longer run. Thanks.
  22. I don't normally look at the oil temperature but I must have accidentally moved the rotary steering wheel knob and it popped up on the display only to show 3 x dashes when the engine was running at normal water temperature. The car is just 13 months old and has just had its first Oil Service at a main dealer so I dont know if the problem has been there from new or whether they have knocked a wire off somewhere while it was with them. Anybody know where the oil temperature sensor is located on a 1.0 TSI engine and if its possible to see it from just lifting the bonnet or is it well hidden and needs to be on a ramp to see it? I am not going to take it in to the dealer just to look at this, but will have a look myself if its an easy fix of just a loose wire. Thanks in adavance for any suggestions. Dave
  23. I purchased this MATCC windscreen cover for my Yeti but it also fits my Karoq. I notice that they now do a slightly bigger version which also has elastic straps to fit around the mirrors and is magnetic to attach to the bonnet to keep snow out of the wipers too. Have a look on Amazon - they are less than £15

My 1.0tsi does it as well on the same tyres. I put it down to the lighter engine but its probably 50% tyres too
  25. Key in the lock method worked for me on 2004 Mk1 Fabia VRS after battery change recently. Thanks Dave
