Tyre noise or wheel bearing?
Car has obviously been sat still for extended periods by its older owners.

Tyre noise or wheel bearing?
Not an obvious diagnosis as no classic wheel bearing symptoms. Proof is in the pudding though. Zero issues and 3k since the change.

Tyre noise or wheel bearing?
There are several threads on this issue already. I had convinced myself that the “feathering” on a six year old nearside front tyre was to blame for the noise with resonance at 20/40/60 mph and the noise more evident on the nearside. I’d had this issue on a previous Octavia which was caused by a tyre and my current 10 year old car had only 18k miles on the clock with no classic increase in noise when loading one side. Also no noises/movement when testing/spinning the wheel. Two new tyres didn’t cure it ☹️ A new wheel bearing did. Sometimes only trial and error will do 😀 Not too difficult a repair and £85 part vs the £500 from my local dealer.

Smartlink install broke reversing camera
Exact same issue for me. £200 later I have Apple car play but the retrofit reverse camera fitted by a Skoda Main Dealer for the previous owner no longer works. Long conversation with Plymouth Murray Skoda Service Manager claiming he could do nothing, not original Skoda kit, no access to the camera codes, beyond the dealers expertise. He offered a contact who could fix it at £65. No fault accepted, no offer of even a partial refund for creating the problem. OBD 11, which has already repaid me many times over, 10mins menu scrolling and 10 credits later the camera is reactivated! 100 credits equals £30.

Anyone actually happy with their MK4? 😂
Sold my Mk 4 and rolled back to a Mk 3. Very ,very happy to be rid of this heap of IT error ridden junk that thinks that after 55 years driving I’m a total moron needing protection from myself.

Bye
I’ve railed endlessly about my M4 problems. The disastrous First Edition which I returned, Deaf and blind Skoda UK, the better but still flawed 2021 model that replaced it. Emissions sensors problems, random error messages which come and go, the intermittent gear selector lever error message which crops up regularly now. The nanny state compulsory ‘driver aids’, dangerous distraction of a touch screen. I’ve sold it and rolled back to a Mk 3. Best wishes and good luck to all Mk 4 owners.

Selector Lever fault?
many thanks. Couldn’t find much when I looked.

Selector Lever fault?
Another blasted niggle. “Error: Selector lever. You can drive on. Please visit workshop” Anybody know what this is please. I’ve visited my independent garage which throws up several transmission fault codes, all are not released to his OBD reader as Skoda have not made them public. This car has just been such a disappointment with all the fragile electronics/sensors.

Soooo many problems!
This era of Octavias was a tech disaster area as a result of covid chip shortages I believe. Some could be fixed, eventually, by software patches. Mine was a hardware issue which Skoda claimed could not be fixed. Got my money back from dealer as its inability to change mph to kph rendered it illegal.

remote add destinations to Columbus navigation?
Even on the later 21 car when much of the 2020 glitches are sorted, I cannot get the send to car option to work properly. Destination is sent to the car but it won’t “save”. Typically Skoda are useless in offering help.

Screenwash and rear wiper fuse?
More likely blocked jets hence pump working but no fluid. All my Skodas have had ‘this problem because the tube to the washer jets has a metal right angle end which corrodes. The hatch lid trim has to be levered free to get access - not difficult. I’ve not had trouble with the Mk 4 but I assume it will be the same. I remove the wiper jets periodically and operate the rear washer to flush the tube.

Octavia Reliability has declined
I’ve owned Octavias since the last century. Sadly this will be my last. The cars are riddled with unfixable bugs, e.g. hill start error message, infotainment faults. In addition my car has now cost me near on £1000 in the last 3 months for a particulate matter sensor and an exhaust flap held open error. Both are emissions related rubbish in a car (24k) out of warranty but under 4 years old. Octavias of my past were bombproof, utterly reliable requiring nothing more than routine services. The Mk 4 is too clever imho.
-
Error: Auto Hold / Error: Hill Start Assist
These errors have been ever present since I bought my car. I’ve learnt to ignore them. The Mk 4 models are such a let down from my previous Octavias. Too many unexplained and unfixable faults.
-
Potential purchase - any red flags here?
Even with software updates the hardware may not be as it should be and Skoda will not help. Walk away. After much grief documented here, I got a full refund and bought a 2021 model.

Particulate matter temperature sensor
This is not a DPF issue. Light came on soon after a 100mile round trip.
-
Particulate matter temperature sensor
EML is on and the fault given is particualte matter temperature sensor. Nothing wrong with car’s performance. I’m minded to ignore this emissions mumbo jumbo but then the Eml is permanently on and I might miss a more serious fault. I’m also told this is an expensive part and the car is well under 4 years old. Is this a common fault? After my lengthy problems with infotainment glitches and now my first ever. non routine mechanical problem in two decades, my relationship with Skoda is fast coming to an end after the mk4 junk I’ve endured.

Approved Used SE First Edition : Problems
These cars were made through the very dodgy covid and semi conductor shortsges time. Imho it will never be problem free as the hardware doesn’t work as it should. I believe the endless promises of delaers will drive you to distraction. One chance to fix everything or reject.Go for a mk3 or a post 2021 model.

Thinking of buying a new vRs diesel
I’ve had two Vrs diesels Mk2 and Mk 3. Both did Santander to Costa Bllanca return trips in great comfort and economy while being more than adequate for fun on single carriageway roads.

No voice control
Some where along the way Hey Laura ceased being able to change my radio stations. I have 1941 software version. Frankly this is just another of the infotainment issues that plague the VAG and my car on an almost daily basis. After two happy decades with Skodas, I’ll not be looking for another one.

Infotainment System Restarting endlessly
mine has updated over the air two days ago. All went smoothly.

DSG slight delay
All my DSG boxes have had a slight lag in ECO mode. I believe it is designed normal. Fiddling seems pointless to me. Use Sport if you want to burn rubber.

How reliable is the 2.0TDi 150?
Software issues have been the big problem for me with my early Mk 4 model suffering faults due to the chip shortage at the time (2020). Many posts on here. Now I have a 2021 model and it is a lovely car with all the practicality and economy I want. Reliable so far and no repair visits needed in 16k miles. Be prepared to invest some screen time on the infotainment system.

Makes perfect sense. Thanks.
